"When writing or talking about scientifically unfalsifiable 'Spiritual' or 'esoteric' subjects, it is often best just to use the strategy of the medieval mapmakers—that is, rather than always pretending Preternatural precision, sometimes simply use little stand-in wavy lines for the coastal boundaries."—General Theosophy

This site now has 500 members and it is a milestone. It is one of the few sites which public can access without joining it.
There is a tendency in traditional theosophical circles, to keep discussions private. Since the major search engines index the contents of sites they can access, I am confident that the membership here will steadily grow as more users in Internet become aware of this site. Congrats to the organizers of the site.

I've often wondered exactly how the Taliban goes about convincing kids to become terrorists and suicide bombers. What must that propaganda look like? What are their arguments? Whatever they're doing, it's working. Filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy went inside a Taliban training camp to find out exactly how their system works. And it IS working. They target children of very poor families (or perhaps those with no families at all) who are long on despair and short on options. The offer of food,…

Will is a most interesting topic to research. Everyone of us has to some degree experience with the act of will and can do experiments in this field.
In this blog posting I'll summarize Assagioli a bit. Extract from an old blog of mine:
The process of active will is very complex. It has been described by
Assagioli in his book "Act of will". I cannot deal with it here at length.
I will mention the steps involved in the will-process,…

In this blog posting, and some follow-ups, I plan to deal concisely and informally with the fascinating route from wish to reality. There have been quite some authors who have been writing and lecturing about this, especially in newage…

Wikipedia is a source we normally access to find detailed information
about any entity. Now there is an automated encyclopedia at www.cpedia.com. Since it is an automated one, compiling information in Cyberspace, it is likely to be more comprehensive and uptodate. I ran into a compilation about Theosophical Society. Here is the link.…

I think I'm just about done reporting about the World Congress, though pictures will follow. I put up a last version of my posts about the congress on my own blog 'Modern Theosophy'. Here's an overview:

This book by Joy Mills, who is well known in theosophical circles, is very welcome.
I have not read the book. It is not a cheap paperback . List price is US$39.95 and is out of reach of many interested theosophists (most of whom are not rich), especially in the third world countries.
While Quest books - an arm of Theosophical Society in the United States - has published it, one wonders why no one thought of making it also available in electronic form such as a… Continue

The Mahatma Letters to A.P. Sinnett is one of the books that is central
to theosophical literature. I read, and reread it a lot, in the early
years of my being involved with the Theosophical Society and it's one of
the books I based my first online project on '
The Esoteric Studies
Guide'.
Joy Mills is famous in the Theosophical Society Adyar for her in depth
study of these letters. She's…

Based on the feedback received so far, the World Congress seems to be a great success.
Attendance: The congress was well attended by members from various sections and it is a good sign that many have taken the trouble to spend the money and travel to Rome. I was heartened to hear a large contingent of members traveled from Brazil and it only shows that the Brazil Section took the trouble to organize the trip in an efficient manner.… Continue

I came to the World Congress mainly for the people - as I do for any theosophical meeting. And the people were great. I met inspiring and hard working people from all over the world, and have learned about theosophical issues and activities all over the world. I do think in general the atmosphere of this congress was great: relaxed, friendly, cheerful even.
In planning such a congress I do think there are two possible roads to take:
- Going for a theosophical theme…

Finally, Internet is coming into play in the National President election in New Zealand. In the past, you get voting papers along with a brief ‘official’ summary about the candidates and members have to decide based on scant information. Members get no advance notice about the candidates, their expertise, experience, future goals. This helps the inner circle of current and former elected officials keep their influence on whom they want to be elected.… Continue
