Unlocking the Cage

SPACE, time, matter and consciousness are omnipresent. But in science, a fundamental problem is created because they are considered independent things—a mistaken starting point for unlocking the nature of reality.

Their view is sustained because “most researchers still believe they can build from one side of nature, the physical, without the other side, the living,” writes Dr. Robert Lanza, in his May, 2009 book "Biocentrism: How Life and Consciousness Are the Keys to… Continue

A culture of dependency

Where did we go wrong? When did the Theosophical Society make the wrong turn? I am inclined to think that the roots of the problem came at the very beginning, with the Masters.

Theosophists were not intended to be followers, respecters of doctrine, dogma, persons or authority. But the moment our beloved Countess Blavatskya said, "The Master said..." the groundwork was laid. People were unwilling to act or speak on their own, they needed the imagined approval of something outside of… Continue

Maybe it is time to go

I've been a member of the Adyar TS for over 30 years. I've seen it have its scandals and I've seen the good side of it as well. Tonight I am thinking that maybe it is time for me to leave. I am tired of the political haranguing. I am tired of the hypocrisy and now, having seen the face of what it is attracting in new members, I think that perhaps there is no longer a place for me in it or perhaps there are just people I do not want to be in the same place with.

Maybe it is time for… Continue

James Morgan Pryse's Restored New Testament now online!

The theosopher James Morgan Pryse published a groundbreaking book in 1914, titled "The Restored New Testament" (see wiki link). He makes a good case indeed that the gospels are but disfigured copies from Eleusinian initiation rites

Very good stuff indeed. His vast knowledge of Ancient Greek culture and language, coupled to a deep understanding of mythology and… Continue

Doubt

After watching the movie “Doubt” (also a Play). I wanted to write this essay on the subject. I loved the movie “Doubt” by the way. It was superbly done and has great critical acclaims. The story of Doubt has very little to do what I am about to say but I could not resist the “plug”…

Now for the concept of doubt; many New Age authors claim to have been guided or met supernatural beings. Some people lap it up while others show disdain and contempt.

What is the truth behind… Continue

Darkening the image

Ok, did that get your attention?

We hear it over and over again, "Why aren't more people interested in Theosophy?" And we all have the same answers that we give over and over again, but I think it can be put rather simply. Theosophy comes across as spiritual prune juice. It's boring!

Well, that is not exactly true. Theosophy can be anything but boring but Theosophists can be deadly bores. It does not mean that they are not nice people and fun to be around, after all, look… Continue

A bit of fun

Seeing as how our fundamentalist Christian friends keep mixing us up with the Alice Bailey folks and think we are here to herald the coming of the AntiChrist and Robert Mueller, I think we should not let them be disappointed. Therefore I propose that we move the headquarters of the Illuminati to the Olcott Library with the World Control Center to be located in the basement just off the dining room.

Create an AI on Your Computer

Written on May 28, 2009 – 11:48 am | by Aaron Saenz |

Intelligence Realm is seeking to build the first AI using distributed computing.

If many hands make light work, then maybe many computers can make an artificial brain. That’s the basic reasoning behind Intelligence Realm’s Artificial Intelligence project. By reverse engineering the brain through a simulation… Continue

A Spiritual Journey of Self-Discovery beyond Eastern Fundamentalism and Western Materialism

“Alas! The god in man remains a child waiting to mature. Shall man grow into a god, or is he doomed in his humanity?” This question, posed in the prologue of Abir Taha’s inspirational new philosophical novel, The Epic of Arya: In Search of the Sacred Light (published by AuthorHouse), is central to the sacred mission of its main character, Arya, who seeks to find… Continue

Falun Dafa

Art or the Pulpit? The two Pronged Approach to Spirituality.

"We are facing unsettling times when peace of mind and harmony are much sought after conditions. Unfortunately, where there is a need often the snake oil salesmen appear from the woodwork.

People have natural instincts, well from the few obvious gullible, who know and realize that God’s consciousness and peace of mind… Continue

Wolfram Alpha ‘knowledge engine’ the new nerd on the block

A NEW site that aims to catalogue “as much of the world’s knowledge as possible” and use it to answer every question imaginable has the tech industry buzzing.

Developed by British physicist Stephen Wolfram, the Wolfram Alpha “knowledge engine” was this week opened to the public — and much fanfare.

The idea is that if Google sorts through all the pages on the web and tells you which one to read, Wolfram Alpha reads them itself and then tells you the answer.

Free will

A question occurred to me that i thought i would share.

it asks, if free will exists can we renounce it?

if the answer is yes we can renounce it, then how do we maintain our renunciation without the power of free will?

if the answer is no we cannot, then the question is asked, is free will forced upon us? and if it is forced upon us then can we not surrender our will to god/the universe/the higher self?

i cant remember if it was Thomas Aquinas or St… Continue

Brain Activity Prior to Conscious Awareness

Brain Activity Prior to Conscious Awareness

A recent study in Nature Neuroscience has sent freewheeling free will discussion aflutter. Here's the abstract:

There has been a long controversy as to whether subjectively 'free' decisions are determined by brain activity ahead of time. We found that the outcome of a decision can be encoded in brain activity of prefrontal and parietal cortex up to 10 s before it enters awareness. This delay presumably reflects the operation of a… Continue
