The year 2011 will be remembered in history for disasters. Beginning with the earthquake in New Zealand, followed by the earthquake and tsunami in in Japan, to several earthquakes and hurricanes around the globe, it is about to end with a  disaster in Philippines. Heavy rainfall brought about by typhoon Washi resulted in flash floods and mudslides killing 650, at the last count and over 800 missing.

Our community is proud of having several members from Philippines where theosophy took roots early on. Our hearts and prayers go out to all those who have suffered in this disaster. We also appeal to all our members to get in touch with the local Red Cross or any other organization involved in relief / rehabilitation efforts in Philippines and help out in whatever manner one can.

The disaster is also a grim reminder to all of us to take the issue of global warming and climate change seriously. Such issues can only be tackled by the theosophical principles of UNITY and BROTHERHOOD.
