We had a members meeting in the Dutch TS (Aydar) at the end of May. It was spirited, but business like. That is: we discussed important issues, without scapegoating.
I thought I’d share the main issues. I am glad to see that the tabu on discussing these things is leading to important insights coming out – it’s the only way we can reframe the theosophical work in a way that’s relevant for humanity today. What follows is my current view on where we are and need to go.
So,…

As an exercise in PR, I’d like to profile a typical theosophist. Having such a profile might help us in attracting a few of those theosophists outside the TS that Blavatsky mentioned. That is: we should see this person in our minds when we:
- Create local and national programs (and avoid boring ones like this),
- Fill our magazines with new material
- and focus and give…

Not only am I going to the World Congress, but I was planning to live-blog it. But now that I’ve seen the proposed program, I’m no longer so sure. In fact, I’m wondering why I’m going in the first place. For entertainment purposes I have put up the program as it was published at the Adyar TS website this week in this post.
Seriously – the theme is ‘Universal…

This month, and the next, I'll be busy with a
big web redesign project I'm working on. This has already caused
me to blog less last month than usual. I will still try to blog weekly, but I'm very likely to miss a few weeks here and there.

As any group therapist can tell you, group work is complicated. The history of the churches too can be read as a continuing story of growing and shrinking congregations. One of the reasons new congregations often grow is not just that they offer an approach that works for the time, but also that they're simply, being new, more open to new people. Their group structure isn't fixed yet and so it's easier for them to accommodate and welcome new people.…

I've been fairly busy again this month. I went public with my plans to
go to India next year and started a blog where I'll be gathering my
research and thoughts. Of course I'll also use it to as a sort of diary
once I am in India. And yes, I'll keep you up to date about the newest
posts on this blog on
this… Continue

On Blogger (aka, not by me)
This is not exactly a new blog. It's just that I only became aware of it recently (thank you Michael Gomes). It's called 'Blavatsky News', but the subjects are far wider. It contains a lot of book reviews and
(surprise) the authors seem to know what they are talking about.

I don't often laugh when opening The Theosophist. In fact, I had not looked at the issues of various theosophical magazines lying around my house for months. But the spirit of boredom made me open them one by one. Most didn't help me overcome my boredom. So I did not read much. But the table of contents of the October Issue of The Theosophist (2009) had me laughing out loud.
Why? Well, first off - the variety of spellings used. Colin Price (from the UK) had as his title 'Theosophy…

The comments on my latest blogpost about
theosophical popquizes went a bit off topic. So I thought I'd start a new blogpost discussing the issue.
I've written about this before, so I'll start by quoting myself a few times. Let's start with my first attempt at discussing this:
I still do appreciate Krishnamurti's teachings as valid on the path for many, but aspects of it just don't work… Continue

Squidoo has created a template for online quizes that I've been having some fun with. So test out if you really practice the second object of the TS by studying religion, by taking my quiz about
religion in general. Or whether you know enough about the largest
world religion: Christianity. Perhaps a bit closer to home: I also made…

If the TS is going to move forward into the 21st century in a way that is of use to humanity, we’re going to have to face some real issues, instead of getting side tracked into personal complaints.
Real issues we’re facing:
* how to build community online in a way that is productive and helps people grow spiritually
* how to build community offline: help our lodges grow and be places of real study and a meeting place for people of diverse cultural and religious…

Checking my links I found a few online texts that had, apparently, not been moved but deleted. This is mostly due to the Canadian website no longer having a large collection of online documents. I still had many links to their stuff…
