I saw Matt Lauer and Dan Brown discussing "The Lost Symbol" on NBC last night. They showed a painting of G. Washington in Masonic garb dedicating the cornerstone of the Capitol. Brown mentioned that it was the custom of the founding fathers to use astrology to select an auspicious time for the laying of the cornerstone of important buildings so that good things would happen in those buildings. Matt and Dan then poo pooed the idea. If astrology is true (and I think it is) it is part of how the world works and science. The fundamental theory of Astrology that there is a connecction between what happens in the sky an what happens on earth is also foundamentally mystical. Those with a mystical leaning are open to it and those who are not of that leaning are not. I'm so pleased that Astrololgy was mentioned in reference to an extremely popular book. These old masons were shown to be into the Hermetic Arts.

Leslie:
The corner-stone laying ceremonies still go on. As Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of Arizona, Free and Accepted Masons, I shall be participating in such a ceremony in Tucson on November 21. The extent to which the participating Brothers are aware of any Hermetic or astrological significance will vary to a wide degree.
