Every thought you produce, anything you say, any action you do, it bears your signature.— Thich Nhat Hanh
everything we say and do is a description of ourselves (our understanding)

Well - none of us really "know."
>>>> My "intuition" tells me we are more familiar with karma by another name, in a different perspective. ("The allegory of the cave")
that is a very interesting idea. I will have to think about it... !!
I would be the first person to tell you to not believe anything I say. I know nothing. Anything and everything I say is only a description of my understanding. I am a perspective, as is everyone else.
My point about karma is that we may not yet have a full understanding of what it is. As we become more familiar with something, our understanding of it's "connections" grows. A hammer in one perspective drives in nails, in another it removes them, same hammer, different perspective or connections.
Currently in science we are becoming more familiar with "dark matter" and "dark energy". We really have no clue as to what it is, yet we have given it a name. It is important to note that a hammer is a named thing as well, only it's name is much more specific than "dark matter".
The name "dark matter" has very little meaning yet....it could be just about anything at this point.
The name Karma is the same way, it isn't as well defined as a hammer, so it's name doesn't have a lot of meaning yet.
I contend that we are already familiar with everything, just not in all perspectives. We don't understand the "connections" yet.
My "intuition" tells me we are more familiar with karma by another name, in a different perspective. ("The allegory of the cave")
>>>> In this perspective, prior karma would be emotional memories, potentially (through epic-genetics) handed down to us from our ancestors.
I find this hard to believe. My ancestry doesn't affect my Karma (Karma is not physically originated as well). However their Karma may affect me just as any person's Karma can influence one w.r.t. Karmic debts on both sides. The Karma of Ancestry is too much like Group Souls, which is also unlikely.
When we are born, we lack the ability to form static memories. We are, however, capable of forming and remembering emotional memories. (Hmmmm, wonder if that means something)
Static memories have a physical influence. A stoves burner is remembered to be hot. A lesson usually learned by a burned fingertip.
An emotional memory is influenced by non-physical things, the feeling you were experiencing during interaction with something. So the emotional memory of the interaction between fingertip and hot is pain and recoil. Thats why once you scare a baby with something, you may as well throw it away. No rational thought (which comes later) will ever override an emotional memory, until the memory is understood (translated) in a rational way. (this is where imagination and intuition begin to appear
In this perspective, prior karma would be emotional memories, potentially (through epic-genetics) handed down to us from our ancestors. So karma may not be an individual thing, a poor decision on my part now, may require a karmic toll on all of my descendants. My current understanding could be suffering from a misunderstanding some ancestor of mine had in a completely different environment so far removed even his name is lost. (thats a maybe)
