7d.  Seven Laya Centres:

Zero Point Foundations for the Laws of Nature

VI, 2. THE SWIFT AND RADIANT ONE PRODUCES THE SEVEN LAYA CENTRES ... AND SEATS THE UNIVERSE ON THESE ETERNAL FOUNDATIONS....  (Stanza VI, 2)

The seven Layu centres are the seven Zero points, using the term Zero in the same sense that Chemists do, to indicate a point at which, in Esotericism, the scale of reckoning of
differentiation begins.  (S.D., I,
pp. 138-9)

According to Blavatsky, the laws of nature manifest in the material worlds are due to divine and spiritual intelligences within super-sensuous states of being.  These
influences are conveyed by Fohat through zero point dynamics to manifest
outwardly within the life of any ‘Son’ –whether that of a universe, a quantum
or a human being.  Blavatsky describes
the influx of formative forces manifesting from within the higher spiritual and
divine realms into the lower material realm as acting through “holes dug in
Space”
–“invisible points” or “zero-points.”  Fohat’s influences emerge through the seven
Laya (or Layu) Centres, those wheels and vortices are at zero point levels where
material differentiation begins. It is this process which “ends as
Omnipresent Mind and Life (being) immanent in every atom of Matter.”
  (S.D.,
I
, p. 139)

Blavatsky describes the seven inside as “digging holes in Space” to channel their intelligence/influences into the material realm.  Thus, seven invisible zero points holes dug
in space are established as a foundation for physical manifestation and the
laws of nature:

... all the so-called Forces of Nature, Electricity, Magnetism, Light, Heat, etc., etc., far from being modes of motion of material particles, are in esse, i.e., in their ultimate constitution,
the differentiated aspects of that Universal Motion. ...  When Fohat is said to produce “Seven Laya
Centres,” it means that for formative or creative purposes, the GREAT LAW
(Theists may call it God) stops, or rather modifies its perpetual motion on
seven invisible points within the area of the manifested Universe.  “The great Breath digs through Space seven
holes into Laya to cause them to circumgyrate during Manvantara.”
(Occult Catechism). We have said
that Laya is what Science may call the Zero-point or line; the realm of
absolute negativeness, or the one real absolute Force … the neutral axis, not
one of the many aspects, but its centre.
… “Seven Neutral Centres,” then are produced by Fohat ….  (S.D., I , pp.147-8)

In this view, the foundation for the laws of nature and of material quanta (and the foundation of human consciousness) are the invisible Laya Centres–which extend from physical
dimensions into the underlying metaphysical realm of the Eternal Parent Space
and the Ceaseless Breath.  The Gods and
other invisible powers “clothe” themselves in bodies based upon such zero point
dynamics and holes dug in space, through which Fohat acting as an
electromagnetic force links the intelligence above to the material realm below.

Although the Zero Point is sometimes described as being singular, at other times it is described as having this sevenfold differentiation.  Like Fohat, it is One and Seven.  It is from such mysterious zero point
conditions that the differentiation of a Cosmos, a quantum or Monad
begins.  Modern scientist, Paul Davis
(1984) described such a model of 11 dimensional theory in modern physics where
7 ‘compacted dimensions’ are rolled up into elements at zero point levels.
Davis explained, “think of the extra dimensions as somehow inside the atom”
(p. 160).  Remarkably, Blavatsky explained
exactly this type of peculiar inner dimensionality to ‘atoms,’ quanta, Monads
and cosmoses over a century ago,   Accordingly,
Blavatsky’s model suggests that there is a complex metaphysics to reality at
zero point levels.

The “Imperishable Laya Centres” have a great importance, and their meaning must be fully understood if we would have a clear conception of the Archaic Cosmogony.
(S.D., I)

Blavatsky maintained an unusual conception of the permanency and impermanency of matter.  She states that matter is eternal–but only in its first undifferentiated
condition–in “the laya state.”  Material quanta, Cosmoses, and Monads are
differentiated from a ‘laya state’ –an apparent zero point source or
condition.  The material quanta,
structures and organization come and go through different cycles of cosmic
manifestation, but the laya centers are ‘imperishable.’

The following diagram conveys the idea of the various forces underlying any material quantum as represented by the final product of the Tree of Life –the lowest sphere referred to as Malkuth or the Kingdom.  The quantum is a function of all of the
forces which pass through the higher dimensions of the Tree of Life and which emerge from within the root principles of
creation.  Ultimately, everything is a
derivative of the Theological Trinity of Be-ness, the Eternal Parent Space and
the Ceaseless Breath.  The Eternal Parent
Space has an inherent sevenfoldness and hence produces seven pre-material
protyles, or seven Ethers as modifications of the fundamental Akasa.  The Ceaseless Breath is similarly differentiated
into the Seven Luminous Sons—the Dhyan Chohans.
The Seven Fohats mediate between the higher realms and the spheres
below.  These three–the Seven Protyles,
the Seven Luminous Sons and the Seven Fohats—can be considered to form a
‘metaphysical trinity,’ as distinct from the ‘theological trinity’ above. In
the Tree of Life, the metaphysical
trinity forms a downward turned triangle below, in contrast to the upward
turned triangle of the theological trinity above.

Other Stanzas depict the unfolding of the Seven Laya Centres in a sequential process.  In terms of modern physics, this is called ‘sequential symmetry breaking’ out of a state of ‘perfect symmetry’ hypothesized to exist before cosmic differentiation
from the Akasa.    This sequential
symmetry breaking is depicted in the Stanzas:

VI, 2.  THE SWIFT AND RADIANT ONE PRODUCES THE SEVEN LAYA CENTRES, AGAINST WHICH NONE WILL PREVAIL TO THE GREAT DAY
“BE-WITH-US,” AND SEATS THE UNIVERSE ON THESE ETERNAL FOUNDATIONS SURROUNDING
TSIEN-TCHAN WITH THE ELEMENTARY GERMS.

3.  OF THE SEVEN—FIRST ONE MANIFESTED, SIX CONCEALED, TWO MANIFESTED, FIVE CONCEALED; THREE MANIFESTED, FOUR CONCEALED; FOUR PRODUCED, THREE HIDDEN; FOUR AND ONE TSAN REVEALED, TWO AND ONE HALF
CONCEALED; SIX TO BE MANIFESTED, ONE LAID ASIDE. LASTLY, SEVEN SMALL WHEELS
REVOLVING; ONE GIVING BIRTH TO THE OTHER.

From the perspective of The Secret Doctrine, all of these higher level and primordial realms underlie material manifestation of a cosmos or quantum. Subsequently, any physics carried far enough has to lead to this
ancient metaphysics. In contrast, the naive materialist science philosophy of
the past century takes only the last sphere of the Tree of Life as
‘reality:’ the material realm governed by mechanistic laws and considers that
there is no underlying metaphysics to such processes.  In contrast, Blavatsky explained how all
things are created, sustained and dissolved through zero-point dynamics rooted
into higher dimensions and the primordial realms.

All the laws of physics are founded upon zero point foundations and these are the portals for higher dimensional influences.   Further,
these processes proceed on successive levels or planes of being, creating
manifest reality within-without from zero points levels.  H. P. Blavatsky certainly held a remarkable
view of physics and the metaphysical processes underlying familiar reality.

The zero point teaching provides a highly valuable alternative perspective on the mysteries of creation, as well as on the newest theories of modern physics and cosmology.
Blavatsky is suggesting that the true causes of phenomena in the outer
world are founded upon these zero point sources—in a manner quite consistent
with the newest models of higher compacted dimensions, zero point fields,
black-hole information processes and holographic physics—as we shall see.  The Gods and other invisible powers clothe
themselves in bodies based on such zero point foundations, seven circumgyrating
holes dug in space!

Dr. Holmes, I enjoyed your short article and understood as much as I can with my limited knowledge of quantum physics, at a layperson's level. There was a recent Forum titled 'Science and Extra-dimensions" and I was hoping you would have joined in on that, as you have studied the science in Blavatsky in depth. So, here's an opportunity to bring this topic up again.

What does Blavatsky have to say on what are now referred to as "parallel worlds" "parallel universes" or "multiverses."? Are these the same as what Occultists and Adepts, East and West, have referred to as "extra-dimensions" and "astral planes."? And what does she have to say on some of the Entities that inhabit these other realms?

Even Stephen Hawking posits an infinite number of multiverses spun off from the "Big Bang" and we are living in only one. Though, he would never admit we could access these other universes or do I think he says there are other conscious Entities in these other realms. So, what does Blavatsky have to say on accessing these other realms?

Thanks for any comments you can provide.
Thank you Michael for your response. I am sorry to have missed the earlier discussions of higher dimensions. Generally, i would argue that Blavatsky's seven skinned eternal parent space is a form of 7dimensional hyperspace, perfectly compatible with modern 11 dimensional superstring and M-theory, which i talk about at this link: http://www.zeropoint.ca/GSSD-4-4CSUPERSTRINGS.html

Certainly, Blavatsky posited a multiverse, with infinite number of universes created out of the root principles over eternity. With regards to parallel worlds, Blavatsky provides this remarkable passage discussing the presence of other worlds within the same Space as ourselves:

"The Secret Doctrine–postulating that conditioned or limited space (location) has no real being except in this world of illusion, or, in other words, in our perceptive faculties–teaches that every one of the higher, as of the lower worlds, is interblended with our own objective world; that millions of things and beings are, in point of localization, around and in us, as we are around, with, and in them; it is not metaphysical figure of speech, but a sober fact in Nature, however incomprehensible to our senses.

"But one has to understand the phraseology of Occultism before criticizing what it asserts. For example, the Doctrine refuses (as Science does, in one sense) to use the words “above” and “below,” “higher” and “lower,” in reference to invisible spheres, as being without meaning. … Hence, when “other worlds” are mentioned—whether better or worse, more spiritual or still more material, though both invisible—the Occultist does not locate these spheres either outside or inside our Earth, as the theologians and the poets do; for their location is nowhere in the space known to, and conceived by, the profane. They are, as it were, blended with our world–interpenetrating it and interpenetrated by it. .... Although as invisible as if they were millions of miles beyond our solar system, they are yet with us, near us, within our own world, as objective and material to their respective inhabitants as ours is to us. … The inhabitants of these (worlds) … may be, for all we know, or feel, passing through and around us as if through empty space, their very habitations and countries being interblended with ours, though not disturbing our vision, because we have not yet the faculties necessary for discerning them.
… the men of science … labor under the absurd impression that in the whole Kosmos, or at any rate in our own atmosphere, there are no other conscious, intelligent beings, save ourselves. … while Science sternly rejects even the possibility of there being such (to us, generally) invisible creatures, Society, while believing in it all secretly, is made to deride the idea openly. …
Nevertheless, such invisible worlds do exist. Inhabited as thickly as our own is, they are scattered throughout apparent Space in immense number; some far more material than our own world, others gradually etherealizing until they become formless and are as “Breaths.” That our physical eye does not see them, is no reason to disbelieve in them; physicists can see neither their ether, atoms, nor “modes of motion,” or Forces. Yet they accept and teach them. (S.D. I, pp. 604-6)

This is a remarkable conception of the nature of Space—compatible with holographic and quantum information theory in modern physics. Space is not empty. Ordinary four-dimensional spacetime is an outward projection from within higher dimensions of real Space and emerges from zero point levels. Living beings have such deep roots in higher and real Space. Further, there are all kinds of other intelligences, worlds, dimensions and beings within the same space as ourselves although invisible to our perceptive faculties. This is analogous to how a scientist can produce multiple holographic images on a holographic plate by shifting the angle of the projecting light sources.

with regards to Hawking, you might enjoy my critique of his new book at http://www.zeropoint.ca/GrandDesign.html
Thanks, Dr. Holmes, for your excellent response. There's a lot there for further study and it goes right along with what I've read and investigated over the years.

As for Dr. Stephen Hawking, I read your perspicacious review of his new book from an earlier posting you had of it. If you recall, I replied and recommended it highly to others on this Forum.

There have been numerous books and groups over the decades centered around and advocating "Astral Projection," and several new ones have cropped up recently. In the Hermetic Tradition, specifically the Ceremonial Magick aspect, there are purported procedures that open up "portals" to some of these extra-dimensions, both angelic and demonic. And in Tibetan Buddhism, something I'm only slightly familiar with, there is said to be meditations and techniques in the Higher Teachings that also open dimensional portals.

So, as for accessing these other realms, worlds and dimensions, what approaches and techniques did Blavatsky recommend? Did she go into how to personally verify and explore all this ourselves personally, or in groups?
Thanks Michael for your response and questions:

Unfortunately, i am not aware of what HPB suggests in terms of your question:

"So, as for accessing these other realms, worlds and dimensions, what approaches and techniques did Blavatsky recommend?"

Generally, HPB was against necromacy, contact with the dead, and she was against the methods of black and ceremonial magic, as far as i know. Madame's writings are so vast and i am more studied particularly in the SD.
I appreciate your response, Dr. Holmes. Perhaps others more familiar with some of HPB's other writings will join in here. But, I'm not holding my breath, as this topic doesn't seem to have caught the interest of anyone else on this Site.

Seeing that HPB herself was much involved in the Spiritualism movement of the time previous to the founding of the TS,( Although there was much fraud and trickery exposed in this movement, parapsychologists of the time, under stringent laboratory conditions, verified genuine paranormal phenomena), it seems strange she would deny others the opportunity to investigate the "afterlife.'

Also, Mme. Blavatsky throughout her career life claimed and demonstrated powers of mental and physical psychic feats pf levitation, clairvoyance, out-of-body projection(astral projection), telepathy, and clairaudience. She surely would have wanted her students and fellow TS members to have these same abilities and the wisdom to use them correctly.

Well, as was discussed here in a Forum titled "Theosophy and Hermeticism," it was the Western Tradition of Hermetics that Blavatsky and others started out with. The "Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor" was an early influence and many early TS members were also involved with the "Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn." Why she and Olcott abandoned this and went Eastward to India was not fully answered in that Forum discussion.

Thanks, again, for your comments and I look forward to any further discussion entries you present here.
