I have been studying alternate ways to meditate. I have Tinnitus and thought about alternate ways to meditate. I write in a bold format because I am farsighted and do not see well near sited. I am a daydreamer because am trying to figure out reality the best I can. I understand what I see and sense more then searching for truth within knowledge. I think it all comes down to what I see sense experience and believe. It's like writing apples and it's understood oranges.

Most any mystery will appeal to ones curiosity immediately, the words spirit/esoteric comes to mind. I find it interesting that each person who studies ancient history, especially the religious side, has their own personal understand of what they believe. There (wisdom) is a prelude to our curiosity, and we adopt their thoughts as ours to carry and share their wisdom. But with any mystery their are those who cannot accept the wisdom of the ancients.

So they hide or misconstrue the ancients wisdom, and their knowledge is hidden within their truth. If the Library of Alexander hadn't been destroyed look at the treasure we would inherited from them! I for one cannot understand hiding any truth, but the word couth comes to mind. I can see and understand ones belief being challenged, therefore one has to use couth to not challenge anothers belief to their harm. There is now the understanding of alternate understandings. Thoughts please? Paul

Dear Paul ,

Since you do not have the access to some of the resources that we have here , I will try to suggest to you somethings of which we are aware - moreover since you have on many occassions mentioned that you "have been touched by the other side" , I will try to convey what I know of some aspects and hopefully it may be helpful to you .

Now what you have to understand is that when you are on the spiritual path (I use it synonymously with Yoga ) things happen whereby physical discomfort may be experienced , we normally attribute it to the immediate cause ie. by way of example like hitting our head somewhere , or falling down , or cutting our hand , or a heating up of our body , changes ib sleep patterns, eating times, hunger will change, emotions will appear and make you uneasy , irrational fear at times, a running away of thoughts, hearing of sounds , things like ants crawling on your body or pin pricks wjilst sleeping keeping you awake , pain i the bones, joints, headaches, an unnatural cooling of the body , diffidence , tiredness necessitating lying down, changes in metabolism and the defecation of food , nausea, different halves of the brain having ache as if there is a migraine, passing of urine abnormally as if you have diabetes, dehydration of the body at times and a consequent dryness in the mouth , sometimes as if a vertigo is about , sometimes a lightness of head as if inebriated , and other times a heaviness. Now the thing to understand is that provided you have faith in what you are doing and knowing that no bad effects can come from a good venture - all these signify the readying your body for higher consciousness , and is the result of spiritual exrcises. Another thing to note is that these show subtle changes within oneself but manifest as minor discomforts on the physical plane . We normally attribute these to some illness and run to a doctor . This need not be so , once the hang of Yoga is got you will be more assured when such things happen , in most cases these changes happen in such a way as to mislead us as to its cause , ie. we attribute these things to some event which may have happened or thought to have been precipitated by us - but it is not so . for instance a man may strike his head on the floor and fall  down the head ache will last for a couple of days and vanish but in the meanwhile new channels have been formed within him for the flow of the vital power or Prana , just as many would have experienced - we hit our elbow or any place on which there has been a cut on an object at the precise place where it has been cut , and we attribute it to our carelessness , no it is not so , it is an automatic stimulation of the same place so that will heal quicker through pain and blood circulation . Pain is nothing but heat (if you closely and objectively examine it when you have it ) . Now this is the first stage only , in the second stage a kind of "thinning of the mind and so senses is achieved" where by one hears sounds , smells , and sees sights and apparitions which if you get worried and run to a doctor they will say that you are hallucinating , it is sad that the medical fraternity does not look at to cure the cause but rather alleviate the effect whilst leaving the cause untouched . Medicines affect the brain only not the mind , so faith is the only thing useful here . Now coming to the problem of yours - There exists within us a Chakra called the Anhata Chakra or Heart Chakra - during meditation once it starts opening up you will hear sounds which are "Akritrimam" (or Naturally occuring and not man made )   It shows that the particular centre of power relating to sounds is opening up and you will hear mainly celestial sounds like Flute ,Drums,Cymbals,Gongs,Castanets,Bells of various sizes  etc in varying intensities - now this has to be surmounted by practice of Yoga and knowledge . It is not uncommon for many ascetics to have Tinnunitis which is a constant and continuous tinny sound and which is not man made . This is so shrill and continuous that it has to achieve laya in this chakra and then silence will start ti ensue and meditation consequent to silence . I write this because It took me about 6 years to achieve laya of this at that particular chakra . Of course it is not a big struggle and is pleasant actually once you get the hang of how to achieve "Thinning of the mind through Laya of Sound " , I am explaining how to do it hereunder .

You have to sit comfortably and it could be anywhere in any way (but do not go to sleep if you are lying in bed and doing this ). First after closing your eyes and as if sinking into sleep just relax , let the tinny sound be there , if it is continuous like a "string of sound and unbroken " then it is excellent - it may be loud or very indistingushable - what you have to do is concentrate very carefully at the sounds you hear - like a dog barking, a person shouting , slamming of a door, closing of a car the sound or birds and cars in the road , the honking sounds , laughter or other sounds - slowly rotate your "concentaratin or ''Gaze" " from the grosser sounds to the subtler sounds and learn to distinguish them - and then you have to do again from the subtler sounds to the bigger sounds and vice versa , do it slowly and let the mind jump on its own to the sounds or you may concentarte your ears on different sounds and try to see which fits where , whether a particular sound say a closing of the back yard door would fall between a main door or the closing of a car door or a man shouting at his wife nextdoor  etc . after a few days it becomes normal . and it can be done at night or twilight wherein the various sounds of crikets and all come alive and . vices and sounds carry far in the night , so your mind becomes thinner and the ear becomes ESP , then what you can do is after these big sounds external sounds have been practiced for a few days - from the gross to the subtle and from the subtle to the gross - , turn your attention to the Tinnunitis you will find it is like a very minute bell or anklets like they use in indian dancing , many small and big sounds within that sound which is piercing will be able to be distinguished - concentrate carefully on the tinnny sounds and you will find small tinkling and bigger like the end of a gong or plate falling (the end sounds) learn to distinguish the various sounds like bells of different sizes as they repaate within the gamut of the continuous sound of the tinnunitis and then see with mind (eyes closed - you may ignore the tinnunitis and try to remember if a steel spoon or knife or fork falling would make this sound and which would "fit in the gaps of " the tinnunitis - so you have to try and "Tie" these sounds also from memory the church bells will come up and their fading and you can do the tying up - do not think too much just rotate the mind between sounds outside and the tinninitis and from tje bigger to the smaller sounds and from the smaller to the bigger sounds , and whenever there is silence outside and between sounds there is silence , immediately turn to the tinny sound and concentarte carefully and try to pick up the bigger sounds in it to the smaller and from the smaller to the bigger in the tinnunitis - you will find the tinnunitis reducing and your mind will become thin and more receptive to meditation etc . Some times after a few days of this practice - a big whoosh will come and quiten your mind to a large extent and then - it becomes more subtler . This is Laya or merging of the mind and sound . You may try it . I hope I have been helpful .
