Dewald Bester replied to John's discussion Here's Where We Might Reach the Limits of Science
"Hi John I hope I am not drifting off topic. I wondered if you thought there was any reason not to simply accept the current scientific explanation of the universe and everything in it? i.e. what would be the motivation for being…"

Dewald Bester commented on Richard Ihle's blog post Theosophy: Repainting the Rainbow
"Hi Richard, interesting. i've not read the quest article. so my comments may reflect that. I wondered if you had a working definition of science? And, where an 'intuitional (special)epistemology may fit into it? If it does? I'd have…"

Dewald Bester commented on ERIC STEWART MCGOUGH's blog post Theosophy demonised by the word Occult
"hi Eric i don't have any experience of blogging, but i would think you should consider your intended audience. If it is to include academic types you should consider a spell check program. Your word 'woferling' is going to keep me…"

Dewald Bester commented on ERIC STEWART MCGOUGH's blog post Theosophy demonised by the word Occult
"I think I would agree with Eric that descriptive terms like 'esoteric' and 'occult' are not particularly explanatory or helpful. And function to distance theosophy from more 'acceptable' discourses. Though, perhaps,…"

Dewald Bester replied to John's discussion The silliness that is Theosophy (Blavatskyism)
"to quote, approximately, elias canetti - 'you cannot answer each passing fool according to his folly'. Though certainly i am guilty of trying this sometimes. I dont think you are the fool, the fool is the writer of the article (silliness…"

Dewald Bester replied to John's discussion The silliness that is Theosophy (Blavatskyism)
"Hi I think you guys set up a straw man. ts=hpb=truth=theosophy. Where in any serious current theosophical literature do you find this. and no counter strand in the same organisation? In Adyar TS, in my experience, HPB is not taken seriously. I have…"

Mark Kusek replied to Dewald Bester's discussion contemporary scholarship and HPB in the group HPB Theosophy
"Just curious, since so much of socially shareable understanding (at least through a medium like language especially via publication, even e-publication) depends on description of views and the meaning of terms - what are the offered descriptions of…"

John replied to Dewald Bester's discussion contemporary scholarship and HPB in the group HPB Theosophy
"Hi - Someone like Dr. Santucci, or other academic, could respond successfully. See Theosophical History, a peer reviewed journal: http://www.theohistory.org.  Perhaps the Pomegranate article is correct. I don't know. note: Theosophy has…"

"hi As an example of what i had in mind. I am not sure if anyone has seen the following journal article in Pomegranate vol. 15, 2013. "The transvaluation of soul and spirit: platonism and paulism in h.p. blavatsky's isis unveiled".…"

John replied to Dewald Bester's discussion contemporary scholarship and HPB in the group HPB Theosophy
"It has always seemed to me that HPB is trapped in the Victorian era. That would have to be overcome. One main problem is that Theosophists have little respect for science. Many actually believe Sheldrake's criticisms e.g. With that mind-set it…"

contemporary scholarship and HPB

hiI am interested in sharing ways of moving hpb's works (ideas and perspectives) from the periphery of current scholarship In various fields of knowledge) to a more central space. In most area's of knowledge her theosophy is simply ignored (sciences, etc). In some fields (ie religious studies) she is a topic of research but her ideas are not seen as valuable perspectives in themselves.I am of the opinion that we should counter these exclusionary practices. How though do we do it?David Reigle…See More

Dewald Bester replied to David Allen's discussion The Truth

Dewald Bester replied to David Allen's discussion The Truth
"thanks. i am not sure i am following you totally. you seem to be saying that one can be in an illusory state, but accurately describe that state. i.e. you dont 'see accurately', but you can describe what you 'inaccurately see'.…"
