Ah Memphis! That's the main place where I also went on my 83 vacation. I had been a fan of Elvis since the 50s and I was really impressed with two things at Graceland. Number 1 was the Meditation Garden and number 2 was the room with all his golden records. I entered another, visionary world at Graceland. one that spoke to something deep in my heart.  Then there was downtown Memphis and Beale Street with its great food and upstairs music clubs that stayed open till dawn and the cool department store where Elvis bought his clothes. You might wonder what Elvis has to do with Theosophy.net. Well, one time Elvis told his hairdresser that although he sang a lot of Christian hymns, his real philosophy was summed up in The Voice of the Silence! A few years ago I told this to my dear artist friend Kim Haueter in San Francisco and she painted an Elvis for me that is not exactly as Buddhist as The Voice, but has a definite Indian tone. I will post a photo.

I've already begun working on Holly to take the trip, but if I lose patience I'll just order the food.

Thanks for the tips!

Pulled pork! And I bet they have ribs too. Now all I have to do is convince my wife Holly to take a vacation.

We have Bub's Grub nearby, but the ribs at Cadillac Chapparal half hour away are far better and worth the ride through genuine southern AZ desert.

Y'all enjoy your southern comfort!

Peace and Pleasure :-D

There had been a storm in 83 too. My palm trees survived an unusual cold front last February up here in the Santa Catalinas about 30 miles from Tucson, but I lost some cacti. When I was living at a Buddhist center in the Berkeley Hills in the 80s, we had an old tree in the front yard that was dropping branches on the neighbor's BMW. Our Tibetan Lama decided to have the tree cut down. When we examined the rings, we noticed that the tree had begun a last, rather wide growth spurt the year the Lama acquired the house. I think it knew the man with the axe had arrived.

How's the catfish?

LOL

That's a beauty. Back in 1983, I spent some vacation time in Mississippi. I visited Vicksburg, Natchez, and wandered the Trace. I have many wonderful memories of these places as well as the people and the food. Yes, the food! MMMMNN MMMNNNN! The only sad thing was seeing a Magnolia tree that had fallen after 140 years. Could be your photo has made it's spirit visible to me.
