IBM has just announced that their Jeopardy playing supercomputer, Watson will play on the TV gameshow on February 14 - 16th, 2011.

Watson will be playing against the top two Jeopardy winners of all time.  The human players include Ken Jennings, who holds the record for number of consecutive games won, at 74, while Brad Rutler holds the record for the most winnings, a combined $3.3 million.

The winner will take home a $1 million prize.

It all wants you want to get out your Al Yankovic and play "I Lost on Jeopardy".

On a more thoughtful note, this is a good indicator of how far computers are coming in terms of being able to parse general knowledge.  One wonders how long it will be before they get into abstract thought and are able to competently debate philosophical concepts.

And beyond that...I think, therefore I am.  A digital Descartes.
