We are all born with certain inherent natures , it is deeply embedded within us , on the most general plane our natures are of three types which correspond  with the nature in the macrocosm

viz. Calm, Active and Violent . These are variously known as Satvik,Rajasik and Tamasik and also are called as Gunas . These cannot be taken as being clear cut and final distinctions since all three natures are there in everyone and people move at various times from the calm to the active to the Violent constantly . It sort of morphs one into another . The distinctions are pertinent when a person displays predominantly a particular type of nature consistently , in most cases each discrete action contains a particular element of the above natures so  whilst performing an action a man may be Calm at sometimes and violent at others and active in yet another set of activities . No person (even animals) is ever born without this nature . As with every classification which is general variants can be seen in each nature which may be exploded into its constituents such as Low - Middle- High  for each and its combinations .

It is important to have cognizance of this very basic fact since everything that we assimilate in the name of knowledge is subject to our own natures , we will understand a particular piece of information through the colour of this nature within us. In other words our understanding of anything is limited by our own natures which will not allow us to understand it otherwise or correctly . Scientists,Policticians,Businessmen,Academicians ,Doctors,Lawyers ,Engineers and every other person and profession is subject to this in their understanding of Ideas,Concepts and behaviour .

Take a class of students all studying from the same text book the same subject and taught by the same faculty - but in an exam each one comes out with differences in understanding , This is due to their basic natures.

Observing a phenomena by different people entail the same things and results each is Nature bound to see as much as his nature allows him - despite any effort in spite of knowing that his understanding will be tainted with his nature . All efforts to understand his own nature will also be vitiated by ingrained nature thus preventing a proper flow of knowledge - since his consciousness and knowledge of himself is Including his nature !.

Human nature is such that , things unpalatable to their beliefs and security in their knowledge and existence are immediately swept away loosely by the coining of another convenient term (Perspective in this case ) and calls it another "phenomena'' which we then accept as a scientific fact and truth and go back to sleep.

The multiplicity in such useless words which are mere placebos to the heart , conferring metaphysical consolation for a flawed vision and understanding even to men of knowledge complicates the issue further. It is worrisome and painful to contemplate the fact that no two persons understand each other properly (there is only an apparent congruence based on general understandings of concepts ,words and Ideas ) nor can two people be similar in observing natural phenomena .

Now the question is, is the man who is aware of this fact placed any better than the others ? Definitely not is the answer - In matters personal and more individual he will be more careful and prudent (this as regards himself) but he also becomes reticent since whist dealing with the common man it is futile - he understands that whatever is said will not be received in the sense it was meant and is open to interpretation of the listener . So in a manner of speaking he becomes more calm and careful and with a deeper understanding of HIS OWN nature . Since it is no use delving into anothers nature , being aware that he is no different from the others he turns inwards .

There are other facets to personal nature which we consider ourselves - take for example a child who has been born into a specific circumstance and the parents have brought it up with all love and kindness and with proper conduct but turns bad in a way that is not in keeping with the circumstances of his birth and upbringing - it is due to the peculiar mix of HIS nature and has nothing to do with the treatment meted out to him by his parents (which again are according to their understanding ). THere are good souls who become great despite inimical circumstances surrounding their birth , and there are souls who have lost out on an opportunity to capitalize on the advantages of birth into a reasonable family .

Understanding the Nature of Nature and Understanding understanding itself goes a long way in mitigating the ego and afflictions in ones life due to thoughts and actions done by oneself .

These are small things which help in making the world a better place to live in , everyone need not be self realized , though it would be an infinitely better world .

Cultivation of understanding in relationships with oneself is necessary in order to have a reasonably good life and a clean intellect which can spot the worth in a piece of evidence, proof or knowledge without falling prey to ones own nature .

Unnatural exuberance on the coming across of a piece of knowledge is a mark of an unthinking person , its worth to himself is paramount and with understanding it has to be dealt with . Incredulity in a human should never be there it shows bad understanding and a gullible nature , To wonder inwards is to understand , to proclaim wonder is a mark of ignorance . There is no such thing as remarkable to another in this world , everything is possible and most unremarkable - remarkable is something that makes a person wonder internally .

Seen this way nature has a wonderful way of giving way and effacing itself to knowledge almost as if it knew its master  within it . It is a life long exercise and very enjoyable , To worry and fight nature would only leave one bitter and useless. Like the mind it has to be lovingly weaned away individually from its perversions till they subside . It is with this understanding one should approach Any teachings on the Self , and try to imbibe the true meaning of a teaching with relentless and correct thinking - without letting nature or mind to colour our thoughts and understanding.

It is a sine qua non of any study , internal vigilance and strictness to oneself and ones thoughts are the must for a progress in anything , not just the Sciences of the Soul but in all aspects of ones life .

To be thoughtful on hearing a thing depending on the circumstances the thought or idea arose whether from within or without is the mark of a human being and a thinker . Discrimination leading to intuition has its roots here . What is the worth of anothers thought ? Always we have to think of the relevance and time and place and its worth where it was given expression to . It gives a good indication of the worth of the thought .This discrimination can only come form a knowledgeable practice of the same and amongst many other ends its final end has to be clear in the mind of the person who is exercising vigilance .For the subsidiary ends  all merge in the final one which has to be that important. Otherwise there is a fading away of the cutting edge in the intellect and mind they go to sleep in generalities.

Which is why Self Realization has been declared by the wise to be the greatest and final End for an individual that can be attained by knowledge or other means - hapiness and peace all follow step by step as one progresses and it is not dependent on any outside object - what is gained is never lost it is gained forever . This is the real import of Self Realization as an ultimate goal and must be seen as such not as some fad or health exercise or a hobby - in which case the understanding is tainted with nature . Man is sublime his essential nature is sublimity , but as a fertilized egg takes time to grow into a child so too life is the fire in which the seed of sublimity is nurtured and happiness attained . It does not matter then whether one lives or dies it is both done happily and independently with full understanding and knowledge that one has not been of any trouble to another .

To be bad is easy anyone can become that , it is much more difficult to be good and be known as good . It is not sentiments but a high degree of the utilization of ones god given faculties of the mind and intellect in a highly scientific manner is required . Training is everything , and the best teacher that one listens to is oneself !!.Even the most ardent of non conformists listen to themselves in varying degrees of nature .
