Dirty Tricks?

In another theosophical community, today a document was posted which turned out to be adulterated and a member stated "this only shows either your dishonesty or that of the one that gave you the information."

The key issue in this case is the identity of the poster. Many suspected that it is someone who was masquerading under a different name and as such can say or post anything and get away with it. In view of this, one wonders if we need to demand identity of the members before joining the community.

What other preventative steps can be taken to prevent fraudulent postings, hurting people or organizations or causes?

Those interested in theosophy is a minuscule group in the world and it is highly likely many of the active participants in on-line forums have met each other either personally or on-line. Further more, due to the fairly small number of members, many have some expertise or knowledge in some areas and hence are known to the community even if they are not active participants.

Usually, the masqueraders are easy to identify due to some of their intricate knowledge about theosophical and/or TS organizational matters, because it takes time to acquire such knowledge. Few days ago, a participant in another community posted a doctored document and when questioned, signed off quickly and many participants now feel that the person was masquerading using a pseudonym.

Based on past experience of some of the participants here, the masqueraders are de-masked and publicly embarrassed in time.

Vigilancy of participants seems to be a solution to prevent masqueraders causing trouble.
