Can you imagine a world where access to spiritual information was blocked by the government? What if you stopped by an internet cafe, only to find your favorite website was banned by a public web filter, or your friend’s natural health website was blocked because it mentioned ‘spiritual healing’ techniques? A disturbing movement to censor perfectly legal spiritual information is growing (right now in the UK, but other countries are poised to jump on the bandwagon), and will continue unchecked unless people become aware of the problem and protest it. Find out more about the UK filter, and how it will affect you, below.

Gads - are they serious?

This has to be a joke.

Yes, it's crazy... there's more info in detail here at Change.Org and Avaaz.Org

You may ask why is this important?  Well for all the members out there an FYI this would include not just websites but online Forums, Blogs and Communities..  At the moment this isn't a concern for the United States, not yet... the issue here is that on the Theosophy Network our community is available world wide and most of the members here approximately 45% of them are from outside of North America and all new non-members that come to visit approximate almost the same @ ~30% comes from the UK.. if something is not done, the rest of the world can be hindered on how they get information about Truth.  Scary

I could understand why they would want to censor illicit sites like that, or maybe even anti-gov sites or fanatical websites.. but I really don't understand why they would want to push for something like censoring people at the root of communities or even spiritual movements.. that's a little out of their bounds, are they thinking that any community can become fanatical?  Are they really scared of the public this much that they would try to pull in the reigns like this? wow

I do not see how they could implement this.

Esotericism, and Theosophy, Hermeticism, Astrology etc., are a legitimate subject to study in college. Organizations like Freemasonry, Religious Monasteries,  Sufism, Hinduism, Buddhism, AA  etc.  The list gets pretty large as you think about it. Are they going to ban books on the subject in websites? (book companies will scream bloody murder).

Suicide, eating disorders and many other items have sites with great service on the web in terms of information "about", Self help groups (almost all with trained professionals involved), and even Medical Schools are legitimate, what about Acupuncture? Hiding these from the adolescents (and parents) would be harmful and an impediment to helping a large percentage of the population.

When it comes right down to it, much of these are indispensable for a healthy society.

so... how do they keep the good and halt the bad?  Implementation will have to be site by site and that is a horrendous task.

At one time, things link "Breast" and any reference to many bodily organs were being filtered by ISP's that catered to religious groups, who are fanatical, often had to drop their key words of "distaste." Breast Cancer etc. were things they wanted.

I can't see this as implementable. Of course, if you look at the USA Congress, many nutty things appear also.

what ever happened to this "movement" ?? still being discussed??
