One aspect of Olcott that need to be highlighted is the fact that he left the United States to India, a country about which he knew very little and did not know what to expect. This was a daring decision he took based on the utter confidence he had in the judgement of the inner Founders of TS, one of whom visited him in NY and had a long conversation and made him the offer to lead project of establishing TS world wide. Let us also remember that the travel, communications and living conditions in those days were very difficult. At a time when we find in this day and age when travel and communications have vastly improved and modern facilities are available in India, we find some theosophists in the USA complain about the living conditions in Adyar and a few willing to live and work there as volunteers. He was a brave volunteer utterly committed to the spread of Theosophical movement and all one needs is to read an assessment about him in a letter to A P Sinnett by one of the Inner Founders. No wonder with the commitment and his abilities, he succeeded in the mission he work for.
