How Did Albert Einstein Intuit (Grok) E=mc2?

Here's the Background:

On the 20th Anniversary of Einstein's death (1975), physicist Richard Feynman was quoted in Time magazine as saying, "I cannot understand how he arrived at the intuition (2) leading to E-mc^2, considering the level of scientific knowledge at the time."(1905)

A niece of Einstein reported that a copy of the Secret Doctrine was always on his desk.(3) Another witness, Jack Brown, reports similarly in an article, "I visited Professor Einstein." (4)

Here's the story as I got it:

Sometime, around the mid 1970s, I was attending a lecture by a foreign visitor at the United Lodge of Theosophists in New York City... After the talk, a group of ULT associates and I met the speaker, Mrs. Wadia, the elderly British born widow of a well known Indian theosophical writer and lecturer. She was accompanied by several other Indian women dressed in Saris.

Mrs. Wadia, or one of the other women with her (I do not remember their names) told us that when she was at the Theosophical Publishing Company in Adyar during the mid 1960s, she met Einstein's niece, who said she had come to the TPC headquarters to offer their library the book that was at the bedside of her uncle when he died. Mrs. Wadia (or the speaker) said that she and several others at the Adyar Lodge gratefully accepted the worn out and dog-eared copy of the first edition ofThe Secret Doctrine - The Synthesis of Science, Religion and Philosophy by H. P. Blavatsky.

I asked whether she actually handled and opened the book. She answered that she had. When I specifically asked if there were any margin notes, she said that the book was heavily notated and underlined, and that the margins were covered with scribbles and other markings that none of them could make heads nor tails of. (What would we give to get a look at them?) When someone else asked what happened to the book, she said, it was still in the library of the Lodge in Adyar.

Whether it could still be found there today, is anybody's guess.. (If anyone gets to read its "scribbles" as a result of this lead, please let me know.)

This information, however, led me to re-evaluate the "Secret Doctrine" which I had been studying for the past many years (and which was already heavily underlined and margin notated -- but mostly of philosophical, occult, symbolical, and comparative religion significance).

I immediately Purchased a new facsimile edition of The Secret Doctrine (The Theosophy Company, Los Angeles) with the intention of starting all over... But, this time, specifically to study its deeper scientific teachings with reference to the linkages between consciousness, mind and their associated biological organs and organisms (since most of its teachings in cosmology and physics had already been culled and expanded by Einstein, Planck, Millikan, Heisenberg, Bohr, Gell-Mann, Feynman, Hawkings and many others).

My continuing study since that time (and the margin notes it engendered) led me ultimately to the present holographic consciousness theory of Astro Biological Coenergetics and the beginnings of a new scientific paradigm and technology derived from it -- that I am still working on... Hopefully, "next year (or the year after :-), Jerusalem." ;-)>

P.S. I'm not sure if my letter to Feynman in 1975, (telling him where Einstein got his insight) pointed him to the SD. (He never responded.) But it wasn't really necessary for his own work... Since, Einstein (and Millikan, for another -- but that's another story) had already been there. :-)>
She explained that she knew nothing of theosophy or the society, but had to see the place because her uncle always had a copy of Madame Blavatsky's Secret Doctrine on his desk. The individual to whom the niece spoke was Eunice Layton, a world renowned theosophical lecturer who happened to be at the reception desk when she arrived. Astrological Correlates
of the
Great Invocation
By Jose Becerra
The Great Invocation ("third stanza”) was
revealed during the three spiritual Festivals of
1945. These three Spring Festivals were
observed on March 28 (Easter), April 27
(Wesak), and May 27 (Christ's Festival) at
17:46, 10:34 and 01:50 universal (Greenwich)
time, respectively.
The Great Invocation was first
communicated to Alice Bailey on April 17,
1945, that is, between the Easter and Wesak
Festivals of that year. We are also told that the
Christ was first permitted to use the original
seven "very ancient word-forms" of the Great
Invocation at the Gemini Full Moon of 1945.
Presumably, the English translation produced
by Djwhal Khul was dictated to Alice Bailey
earlier as part of the preparation for that
stupendous event (in the same way that a
press release is "embargoed" until a given date
and time).
From Easter through the Christ's
Festival of 1945, the three remote planets of
our solar system, Uranus (sacred, Ray 7), Pluto
(non-sacred, Ray 1) and Neptune (sacred, Ray
6) were each located .in one of the three
astrological Crosses of the geocentric tropical
zodiac. Uranus was in Gemini (Mutable Cross),
Pluto in Leo (Fixed Cross) and Neptune in
Libra (Cardinal Cross). Furthermore, on
Easter these three planets were aligned in a
significant triangular formation as seen from
the earth: Uranus at Gemini 10 degrees,
Neptune at Libra 5 degrees, and Pluto (in their
midpoint) at Leo 8 degrees. It is noteworthy
that the representative of the waning Ray 6
was in retrograde motion while the other two
consistently moved forward throughout this
period. (See table 1 on last page)
The three full moons associated with the
spiritual Festivals of 1945 occurred when the
Sun was positioned in a range of degrees
similar to that of the three remote planets in
each of the three Crosses. On Easter, the Sun
was at Aries 8 degrees (Cardinal Cross); in
Wesak the Sun was at Taurus 7 degrees (Fixed
Cross); and in the Christ's Festival, the Sun
was at Gemini 6 degrees. Interestingly, we are
told that six forces meet in Gemini and all the
rays except the seventh are represented in it.
It is plausible to postulate that the electrical
potency of the Great Invocation was
significantly increased as Uranus bridged, and
thus made live, seventh ray circuits of the
Gemini polarities.
It is very likely that the solilunar
alignments during these three full moon
festivals had profound (even if subconscious)
effects by focusing the energies of Neptune,
Pluto, and Uranus in the first decanates of
each of the three Crosses. On Easter, the Sun,
Uranus, Pluto, and Neptune (conjunct Moon)
were separated by approximately 60 (+ 5)
degrees each, thus forming two interlacing
triangles in the Heavens. On Wesak, Pluto was
at an almost exact midpoint between the Sun
and the Moon (veiling Neptune?), thus forming
an isosceles triangle. Lastly, on the Christ's
Full Moon, the Sun (conjunct Uranus), Pluto,
Neptune, and the Moon (veiling Vulcan?) were
again separated by approximately 60 (+ 5)
degrees, thus forming another set of
interlacing triangles. Throughout this period
covering the three spiritual Festivals, Saturn,
the intermediary between the three remote
planets and the rest of the solar system, was
always significantly engaged in all of these
configurations. Mercury, the Sun's Son, served
as a bridge with the energies of the previous
full moon period. (Table 1, last page)
Therefore, Uranus, Pluto, and Neptune
were distinctly linked in triangular formation
during the three spiritual Festivals of 1945 in
each of the Three Crosses. The Sun-Moon
alignments in each of the three Festivals
Astrological Correlates of the Great Invocation Journal of Esoteric Psychology • Volume XIII • No. 1 • 1999
2
provided a resonant conduit to precipitate on
Earth the chemistry of the Light (Uranus),
Love (Neptune) and Power (Pluto) formulated
in the Great Invocation. These three planets
probably served as focal points for the
overshadowing influences of the Lord Buddha,
Spirit of Peace, and Avatar of Synthesis on the
Christ. The transaturnian planets of our solar
system are probably associated with esoteric
influences beyond the scope of individuals
("collective unconscious”) and, as a
consequence, are most closely related to
Humanity as a whole. According to Dane
Rudhyar, "The voice of the collective is
symbolized by the trinity of remote planets:
Uranus [the projective power of the
unconscious], Neptune [its dissolving power],
and Pluto [its regenerating power]. [These
three] symbolize processes that bring the
unconscious and the subliminal powers to the
threshold of the consciousness. They are thus
intermediaries between the Solar system proper
and the galaxy (author's emphasis)." Again
Dane Rudhyar states, "It is significant that
these have become publicly known at a time
when humanity [was] breaking through
isolating barriers of creed and dogma and all
men flow into the ocean of common humanity.
Uranus became known [1781] as the American
and French Revolutions broke the weight of
feudalism and medievalism; Neptune [1846] as
humanitarianism [Marx's Communist
Manifesto in 1848] swept the world; Pluto
[1930], as mankind [was] getting on its way
toward new structures of social relationships
[the Great War]." (The Astrology of the
Personality, Dane Ruhyhar.)
The Sirian ("galactic”) influence in the
Great Invocation has already been well
documented (Sacred Vessel of the Mysteries,
John Berger). In addition, the importance of
triangular configurations has also been pointed
out, as in the difference between the etheric
bodies of sacred (triangular) compared with
non-sacred (square) planets. The study of
triangles is an integral part of the true science
of astrology.
The influence of Pluto painstakingly
dividing squares into triangles (as in Wesak of
1945), of Uranus linking them in electrical
circuits, and of Neptune providing the
sacrificial fusion between them, should be
recognized. True fusion of separate parts
becoming whole involves sacrifice, the sacrifice
of separateness. This may be the major
contribution of Ray 6, represented by Neptune,
to the Aquarian Age: the spirit of self-sacrifice,
the sacrifice of the illusorily "retrograding"
personality as it becomes progressively infused
with the soul energy. Then, and only then, is
true peace to be found. The soul-infused
individual finally recognizes that "in the
waning of that [separate] self I grow and glow,"
and his internal war is over. This may be an
important influence of the Spirit of Peace
focused in Neptune in the Aquarian Age.
Therefore, the seed of a most significant fusion
was encrypted on the Heavens at the time
when the Great Invocation was released for the
service of the Plan on Earth.
Among the keynotes of Gemini, the sign
under which the Christ first used the Great
Invocation, are recognition of duality and the
interplay between the higher and lower self
until eventually soul control is reached.
Gemini guards the "mystery of duality" and
can present the "word" or sound that leads to
fusion of soul and form. The Great Invocation
is such word or sound of power. It is another
remarkable coincidence that Libra is to "guard
the secret of balance and equilibrium, and
finally to sound the releasing note." Uranus is
the esoteric ruler of Libra and thus the
retrograding of Neptune in the sign of Libra is
a fitting symbol of peace at the end of the
Piscean era and the beginning of the new
Aquarian (Uranian) Age. The Great Invocation
is indeed "the releasing note" of the future.
Dane Rudhyar predicted, "In 1938 Pluto will
enter Leo. This could mark the beginning of
the new era." The release of the Great
Invocation in 1945 was, indeed, the beginning
of a new era of synthesis, brotherhood, and
universality.
Since 1979, Neptune has actually been
the most distant planet from the Sun; Pluto
will again be the most distant in 1999. This
will probably mark the definitive end of the
Piscean era. In addition to this imminent
realignment within our solar system, the year
2000 will also bring the impact of the
Shamballa energies on Earth. The Wesak Full
Astrological Correlates of the Great Invocation Journal of Esoteric Psychology • Volume XIII • No. 1 • 1999
3
Moon on May 18, 2000 will bring an unusual
alignment of planets in the sign of Taurus
(including Saturn at Taurus 21 degrees) while
Uranus transits the sign of Aquarius at 21
degrees too. This will be an impressive
alignment in the Fixed Cross of Heavens.
We should consider that Mercury, the
Seeds Keeper, was in Taurus during the 1945
Christ's Festival and will be part of the Fixed
Cross alignment of the year 2000, exactly 55
years later. Mercury, Saturn, and Uranus
comprise an important esoteric triangle in our
solar system related to energies coming from
the Pleiades (via Capricorn), Ursa Major (via
Leo), and Sirius (via Pisces), respectively. The
unique planetary alignment of May 2000 takes
heightened significance as we consider these
systemic facts. We are told, "God is the ONE
who can withdraw and, in withdrawing, dispel,
dissipate, and devitalize all [that is, illusion,
glamour and maya] that has been created. In
these three activities of that Reality which is
not identified with appearance, the will of God,
the Destroyer aspect of Deity, is beneficently
present. The act of abstraction produces the
dispelling of the illusory world of thought; the
withdrawal of the divine attention dissipates
the sentient universe and brings glamour to an
end; the cessation of divine direction brings
death to the physical world. All these activities
are evidences of the will or of the first aspect--
the will to good which can and will function in
perfection only when goodwill is finally and
fully developed on Earth, through the agency
of humanity." (Glamour: A World Problem,
Alice Bailey, 244) In these words may be
summarized the forthcoming effect of the
definitive withdrawing of the Piscean Age and
the firm and definitive establishment of the
energies released in the Spring of 1945. May
we be able to fulfill our part according to our
accepted responsibility as the Plan of Love and
Light is restored on Earth.
Dr. Becerra is a middle-age physicianresearcher
who for two decades has studied and
practiced the scientific methods of orthodox
science and Djwhal Khul's esotericism, as both
methods require OBSERVATlON to discern
CAUSAL relationships. The books of DK and AAB are called the “Blue Books”. Eighteen of them are written by the Tibetan collaborating with AAB; five are written by AAB herself. One book, The Light of the Soul, which is an exegesis of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, was a shared effort in a different way; the Tibetan Master provided a translation of the ancient aphorisms, and AAB, on her own, provided commentary.

In the book, Initiation Human and Solar (one of DK’s first books with AAB—1922), the following selection describes Master DK. In that same selection is described Master Morya. I think it should be of interest to AY (Agni Yoga) students to see how students of AAB see these two Masters. Of course there are many references to Them, and for those who are interested, a complete compilation of Master M. could be prepared, and of course on Master DK Just let me know and I will be happy to provide.

Short Selection Describing Master Djwhal Khul: “The Master Djwhal Khul, or the Master D. K. as He is frequently called, is another adept on the second Ray of Love-Wisdom. He is the latest of the adepts taking initiation, having taken the fifth initiation in 1875, and is therefore occupying the same body in which He took the initiation, most of the other Masters having taken the fifth initiation whilst occupying earlier vehicles. His body is not a young one, and He is a Tibetan. He is very devoted to the Master K. H. and occupies a little house not far distant from the larger one of the Master, and from His willingness to serve and to do anything that has to be done, He has been called "the Messenger of the Masters." He is profoundly learned, and knows more about the rays and planetary Hierarchies of the solar system than anyone else in the ranks of the Masters. He works with those who heal, and co-operates unknown and unseen with the seekers after truth in the world's great laboratories, with all who definitely aim at the healing and solacing of the world, and with the great philanthropic world movements [Page 58] such as the Red Cross. He occupies Himself with various pupils of different Masters who can profit by His instruction, and within the last ten years has relieved both the Master M. and the Master K. H. of a good deal of Their teaching work, taking over from Them for certain stated times some of Their pupils and disciples. He works largely, too, with certain groups of the devas of the ethers, who are the healing devas, and who thus collaborate with Him in the work of healing some of the physical ills of humanity. He it was Who dictated a large part of that momentous book The Secret Doctrine, and Who showed to H. P. Blavatsky many of the pictures, and gave her much of the data that is to be found in that book.” (IHS 58-59)

Please note the section immediately above which describes our understanding of the way in which DK cooperated closely with HPB in the preparation of that book which all of us in the AY and AAB Traditions value—The Secret Doctrine.

Below is one further reference: an “Extract from a Statement by the Tibetan” in 1934. It tells much of the DK’s attitude towards Masters M. K.H., Himself and His students. It also expresses the tolerance and open-mindedness which are characteristic of a Master upon the second ray of Love-Wisdom:

“Suffice it to say, that I am a Tibetan disciple of a certain degree, and this tells you but little, for all are disciples from the humblest aspirant up to, and beyond, the Christ Himself. I live in a physical body like other men, on the borders of Tibet, and at times (from the exoteric standpoint) preside over a large group of Tibetan lamas, when my other duties permit. It is this fact that has caused it to be reported that I am an abbot of this particular lamasery. Those associated with me in the work of the Hierarchy (and all true disciples are associated in this work) know me by still another name and office. A.A.B. knows who I am and recognises me by two of my names.

I am a brother of yours, who has travelled a little longer upon the Path than has the average student, and has therefore incurred greater responsibilities. I am one who has wrestled and fought his way into a greater measure of light than has the aspirant who will read this article, and I must therefore act as a transmitter of the light, no matter what the cost. I am not an old man, as age counts among the teachers, yet I am not young or inexperienced. My work is to teach and spread the knowledge of the Ageless Wisdom wherever I can find a response, and I have been doing this for many years. I seek also to help the Master M. and the Master K.H. whenever opportunity offers, for I have been long connected with Them and with Their work. In all the above, I have told you much; yet at the same time I have told you nothing which would lead you to offer me that blind obedience and the foolish devotion which the emotional aspirant offers to the Guru and Master Whom he is as yet unable to contact. Nor will he make that desired contact until he has transmuted emotional devotion into unselfish service to humanity—not to the Master.

The books that I have written are sent out with no claim for their acceptance. They may, or may not, be correct, true and useful. It is for you to ascertain their truth by right practice and by the exercise of the intuition. Neither I nor A.A.B. is the least interested in having them acclaimed as inspired writings, or in having anyone speak of them (with bated breath) as being the work of one of the Masters. If they present truth in such a way that it follows sequentially upon that already offered in the world teachings, if the information given raises the aspiration and the will-to-serve from the plane of the emotions to that of the mind (the plane whereon the Masters can be found) then they will have served their purpose. If the teaching conveyed calls forth a response from the illumined mind of the worker in the world, and brings a flashing forth of his intuition, then let that teaching be accepted. But not otherwise. If the statements meet with eventual corroboration, or are deemed true under the test of the Law of Correspondences, then that is well and good. But should this not be so, let not the student accept what is said."
AUGUST 1934

Short Selection Describing Master Morya: “The Master Morya, Who is one of the best known of the Eastern adepts, and Who numbers amongst His pupils a large number of Europeans and Americans, is a Rajput Prince, and for many decades held an authoritative position in Indian affairs.

He works in close co-operation with the Manu, and will Himself eventually hold office as the Manu of the sixth root-race. He dwells, as does His Brother, the Master K. H., at Shigatse in the Himalayas, and is a well-known figure to the inhabitants of that far-away village. He is a man of tall and commanding presence, dark hair and beard and dark eyes, and might be considered stern were it not for the expression that lies in His eyes. He and His Brother, the Master K. H., work almost as a unit, and have done so for many centuries and will, on into the future, for the Master K. H. is in line for the office of World Teacher when the present holder of that office vacates it for higher work, and the sixth root-race comes into being. The houses in which They both dwell are close together, and much of Their time is spent in the closest association. As the Master M. is upon the first Ray, that of Will or Power, His work largely concerns itself with the carrying out of the plans of the present Manu. He acts as the Inspirer of the statesmen of the world, He manipulates forces, through the Mahachohan, that will bring about the conditions desired for the furthering of racial evolution. On the physical plane those great national executives who have far vision and the international ideal are influenced by Him, and with Him co-operate certain of the great devas of the mental plane, and three great groups of angels work with Him on mental levels, in connection with the lesser devas who vitalise thoughtforms, and thus keep alive the thoughtforms of the Guides of the race for the benefit of the whole of humanity.

The Master M. has a large body of pupils under His instruction, and works in connection with many organisations of an esoteric and occult kind, as well as through the politicians and statesmen of the world.” (IHS 54-55)

I thought these selections might be helpful as a starting point. They show, from the perspective of the AAB student, (at least in part) the spheres of influence of these two Masters, and the fact (from our point of view) of their close cooperation.

Since it is sometimes asserted that Alice Bailey was simply a medium (a type of usually mindless communication of which our Teaching also has not much good to say), I would like to include a reference which tells, in DK’s words how He began to work with AAB, and what was their modus operandi.

“In 1919, during the month of November, I made a contact with A.A.B. (Alice A. Bailey) and asked her to do some writing for me and also to undertake the publishing of certain books which—under the sequential giving out of truth—were due to appear. She refused immediately, having no sympathy with the flood of so-called occult literature being passed out to the public by the various occult groups, having no experience in writing for the public, and having also a profound dislike of every form of psychic writing and of psychic work. Later she changed her mind when I explained to her that telepathic rapport was a proven thing and a matter of scientific interest, that she was not either clair-audient or clairvoyant and never would be and that (above all) the test of truth was the truth itself. I told her that if she would write for a period of a month, the material transcribed would prove to her whether it contained truth, whether it evoked intuitive understanding and recognition and whether it had in it that which might be of value in the new spiritual era which was impending. She, therefore, overcame her disgust of this type of work and of the many occult presentations of truth which were prevalent. She only stipulated that the writing should go out with no claims whatsoever and that the teachings should stand or fall on their own merits.” (From the Pamphlet, My Work, by the Tibetan)

Elsewhere we learned that AAB, a number of lives before, had been a young disciple of DK’s, and had developed a facility of rapport with him at that time, which made their telepathic work together possible in the 20th century.

1. What are the 5 most important objectives of the AAB movement?

2. What are the 5 most important activities within the AAB movement to
advance these objectives?

3. What are the 5 greatest achievements of the AAB movement to date?

Although it is best the take DK at His own words, I might just provide a little commentary (between the lines) as a slight elaboration. Also, I would like to include the fuller quotation. These are the Tibetan’s words from The Rays and the Initiation beginning p. 251. I will also provide a brief indication concerning any move towards fulfillment of these objectives (within the limitations of my understanding).

“What are some of these newer truths for which I am responsible as transmitting agent to the world of occult students? Let me briefly state them in the order of their relative importance:

1. The Teaching on Shamballa.

Little has ever been given on this subject. Only the name was known. This teaching includes:

a. Information as to the nature of the will aspect.

b. Indications as to the underlying purposes of Sanat Kumara.

c. Directions as to the building of the antahkarana, which is the first step towards achieving monadic consciousness, and thus the first step towards the Way of the Higher Evolution.

Michael:

1. Although our two Teachers spell it differently, Shamballa is considered in both Traditions to be of the utmost importance. From the DK Teaching, it is the “highest Center” or chakra on our planet—the “Center Where the Will of God is Known”. It corresponds to the monadic or spirit aspect of the human being.

2. We understand that one of the next very important developments in the spiritualizing of humanity is the development of the will aspect of the human being—that which corresponds to the monad and to the First Ray of Will or Power. The will aspect always serves the greatest Ray upon our planet and within our solar system—the Second Ray of Love-Wisdom. “God is Love”.

3. The “King of Shamballa” known by so many names—“The Ancient of Days”, “The Great Sacrifice”, “The One Initiator”, “The Lord of the World”, “The Youth of Endless Summers”, “Melchizedek”, etc., is considered the Great Savior of this planet. HPB talks about Him extensively in The Secret Doctrine. It is His Will which works through Shamballa, and that Will reflects the Will of the Solar Logos—the God of Love for our solar system. Understanding something increasingly real about this Great Being is considered very important in the Bailey Tradition. I think you call this Being by the name Rigden Japo—at least that is how I remember it.

4. The building of the antahkarana or “Rainbow Bridge” is considered a frontier in the process of expanding human sensitivity through meditation. HPB talks about this “Bridge of Light” or “Inner Organ”. It is part of the Eastern Tradition. Its building leads the disciple towards communion with the spirit or monad, and thence to higher levels of evolution beyond that of this planet on the Way of Higher Evolution in relation to which nirvana is considered but the beginning.

5. So this first teaching of the Tibetan in intended to connect the spiritual vanguard of humanity (and eventually, as evolution proceeds, all of humanity) with the highest aspect of divinity within themselves. If successful “God’s Will” (to use the old terminology) will be done on Earth—eventually.

6. Movement towards Fulfillment: We are just learning about the will aspect of divinity. It is a frontier. At the same time we are studying what I would call ‘the curriculum of love’, which certainly is not fulfilled.

2. The Teaching on the New Discipleship.

This has been revolutionary where the older schools of occultism are concerned. The teaching includes:

a. A presentation of the new attitude of the Masters to Their disciples, due to the rapid unfoldment of the mind principle and the growth of the principle of "free will." This changed technique negates the old attitudes, such as that portrayed in the Theosophical literature, and it was a recognition of the difficulties of correcting the wrong impression given which prompted H.P.B. in one of her communications to the Esoteric Section of her day, to regret ever having mentioned Their names. That earlier presentation was useful but has now served its purpose. Unless the schools based on the old methods change their techniques and their approach to truth, they will disappear.

b. Information as to the constitution of the Hierarchy and of the various Ashrams of which it is composed. I have presented the Hierarchy as the Ashram of Sanat Kumara in its sevenfold form, thus linking will and love.

c. A presentation of the newer type of meditations, with its emphasis upon visualisation and the use of the creative imagination; I have presented a system of meditation which has eliminated the attention paid hitherto to personal problems and the intense earlier focus on the relation of the disciple and the Master. The keynote of group fusion and of service underlies the newer form of meditation, and not this powerful emphasis upon the personal relation of the disciple to the Master and the achievement of the individual aspirant. This was degenerating into a form of spiritual selfishness and separateness. (R&I 251-252)

Michael:

1. While in many sections of the Teaching, DK values the attitude of devotion as an inherent quality of the soul and monad of the human being, He, like the Buddha in His “Last Sermon”, wants the modern disciple to rely more upon himself and his contact with his own soul—considered to be “the First Master”. HPB called the soul (Solar Angel or, in HPB’s words, an Agnishvatta) a returning “nirvanis” from a previous Mahamanvantara.

As we know, the Sons of Mind or the incarnating jivas are the returning nirvanis of a previous logoic incarnation. (A Treatise on Cosmic Fire 1125)

These Solar Angels, Sons of Mind, Agnishvattas (many are the names) once were human beings, and now help raise human beings into the Kingdom of the Soul, the Fifth Kingdom. Occult meditation puts us in touch with their great love and wisdom. They are called “Hearts of Fiery Love”.

So, in the AAB Teaching, the best way to meet the Master (such as DK, KH or M) is to first come en rapport with our own Higher Self, which raises our vibration to the point where we can contact our own Master/Guru.

2. In the DK Teaching, the inner Ashrams are all subtle spiritual centers colored by different ray energies. Each Master has His Ashram, and that Ashram will vibrate to His note, which is essentially a note on one of the seven rays. The DK material is full of detailed information on the strenuous requirements for ashramic participation. Conscious treading of the Path of Discipleship is considered the real beginning of the process, following upon the Path of Aspiration—or Probationary Path (about which Theosophy has much to say). Much about the Path can be found also in Theosophical literature, but DK has expanded upon it considerably, and rendered it more modern, and I think, mature.

3. In the newer types of meditation, DK tries to take us away from “spiritual selfishness” and focusses our mind upon higher supra-personal contacts, creativity and service to humanity.

4. The concept of the group is very important in the New Discipleship. We strive to prepare our personalities so that they may develop group consciousness characterized by love, selflessness, impersonality, and cooperation with the Greater Will—the Will of the Soul, the Will of the Master, the Will of Sanat Kumara and finally the Will of the Planetary Logos. These would be progressive attainments. Eventually, the Will of the Solar God of Love will have to be brought to fulfillment. That will not occur for a long time.

5. Movement Toward Fulfillment: The Arcane School founded in 1922, is a School for Discipleship Training. The student, over a number of years, is led through an intensive course of preparation for real discipleship, the success of which is proven by the students selfless service to humanity.

There are many offshoots of the Arcane School: a few are Meditation Mount, Arcana Workshops, the School for Esoteric Studies, the University of the Seven Rays (combined with studies in Agni Yoga), the Aquarian Educational Group (combined with much Agni Yoga), various of the New Esoteric Schools Groups—really, many, I cannot name all the names, so please forgive me if I have left out important ones.

All these study and attempt to apply the New Discipleship and some have been doing to for many years.

3. The Teaching on the Seven Rays.

The fact of the seven rays was well known to the heads of the Theosophical Society, was mentioned very abstractly and vaguely in The Secret Doctrine, and formed in an elementary form some of the teaching given in the Esoteric Section; the names of the rays were given, and some information as to their qualities, and the Masters on the rays, was imparted but not much else. I have given out much information upon the subject and have endeavoured to show the importance of this teaching from the psychological angle, because the new psychology is in the making. If esoteric teaching is eventually to be public in its presentation, it will be given out along the lines of psychology because esoteric teaching in its fullest and deepest sense concerns the consciousness aspect of man and God. (R&I 252)

Michael:

1. The Tibetan teaches that if the Ageless Wisdom is ever to reach the public in a larger and more useful way, it will be through the Science of Psychology based principally upon the Science of the Seven Rays. Everybody has their own psychological issues to solve and right human relations are a great concern to many thinking people today. A study of the rays is revelatory of human psychology (and much else besides). I believe, with the Tibetan, that it gives the key to the New Psychology, in which the soul aspect will finally be regarded as vital to human understanding. The New Psychology is moving rapidly in this direction.

2. We sometimes call the study of the Rays, “The Language of Energy”. The new esoteric astrology is intimately related to this ray study. The use of the rays is one of the best ways to understand the relationship between the macrocosm and the microcosm, in a fair amount of scientific detail. The human being is considered a living energy system, and we want to know which energies we are dealing with. This study fits very well with the coming revelations of science, but also is intimately related to human vocational guidance—finding out where one fits within the Divine Plan and Purpose.

3. An understanding and conscious expression of the rays lead, in my opinion, to fulfilment for the human being, the group and the larger whole.

4. Movement Towards Fulfillment: There are many students of the Seven Rays. This has also been the main thrust of my own personal work, and my book Tapestry of the Gods is meant to help develop this science. The University of the Seven Rays and the Seven Ray Institute were founded to develop the new Esoteric Psychology through a study of the rays, esoteric astrology, and chakra systems. Many books now appear on this subject. Along the practical line, some fifteen years ago, with a number of colleagues I devised a Ray Questionnaire (now revised and improved) to help people determine their ray formula. This test has been taken by perhaps 3000 people, maybe more, and helps people get a more objective look at their subtle energy system.

There are many students and practitioners using the seven ray system, and a number of modern psychologists are including this science in their practice. I would say that this aspect of DK work is under strong development, and will lead to a greater understanding of the human being and his/her relationship to the wider environment (both inner and outer).

4. The Teaching on the new Astrology.

This teaching too has gone out to a few hundred students before its publication in book form. This new astrology has been hitherto ignored by those astrologers who have read it and (with the exception of four astrologers who have deeply appreciated it but who wish I would be more explicit) see little in it. I have given enough, could the open-minded astrologer but realise, to establish the coming astrology on a firm basis; the accuracy of what I have given will in the course of time he ascertained when astrologers who are dealing with the horoscopes of advanced people and disciples will use the esoteric planets as given by me, and not the orthodox planets as usually used. The accuracy of their deductions will necessarily depend upon their own point of development and also upon their ability to recognise an advanced person, a disciple or an initiate when they meet him and undertake to cast his horoscope. If they are themselves advanced disciples, they may have a tendency to set too rigid a standard for those seeking astrological deduction, and thus fail to recognise a disciple; if they are not advanced, they may regard people as advanced who are far from being even true aspirants. In either case then the horoscope may prove inaccurate. It is of no use to use the esoteric planets in relation to the average man. (R&I 252-253)

Michael:

1. Djwhal Khul is considered among the Masters an expert in the study of ray and astrological energies. His work in this field is revolutionary, but really part of a continuing development of the Science of Astrology.

2. Above all, He is attempting to present the type of astrology which will allow modern astrologers to develop the Astrology of the Soul. This type of astrology will help the human being evolve spiritually, and will bring the idea of life purpose and its fulfillment into astrological consideration. Every life cycle sees us born with a new set of astrological (and, to a degree) ray energies. How shall we use these energies to serve the Ashram, the Master and above all, Humanity? Esoteric Astrology will help us answer these questions.

3. There are many fine esoteric astrologers in the world today. It is a growing and very useful science and art.

4. Movement Toward Fulfillment: This work is developing nicely, with excellent material being produced by several authors of whom I am aware. Let there be happier times so that their work may be offered to those who may be interested (and I do not mean on this Forum—but there is a treasure in what they have written).

All over the world there are classes in esoteric astrology. Research is underway, and the psychological and cosmological implications of this great science/art are being developed.

It should be noted that the Lucis Trust is certainly not the sole custodian of the Bailey Tradition though it is of foundational and continuing importance. The ideas presented by DK have spread widely and many are undertaking the development of aspects of His work for which the Trust has no time. They cannot do everything and are happy to see the work spreading to others with more specialized interests. The University of the Seven Rays has also made Esoteric Astrology one of its main foci.

5. Information about the New Group of World Servers and their work.

This information includes:

a. The recognition of this group as intermediate between the Hierarchy and Humanity.

b. The nature of their work as it influences the human soul and as it seeks through the instrumentality of the men and women of goodwill to determine the period in which we live.

c. The Triangle work which embodies two phases of their work, i.e., the forming of the network of light as the channel of communication between the Hierarchy and Humanity, and the forming simultaneously of the network of goodwill, which is the objective expression of the subjective influence of light. Ponder on this statement. (R&I 253)

Michael:

1. This is such an important aspect of the work, but it is impossible to do it any justice in these briefest of descriptions.

2. To use the language of the chakras, the NGWS is considered the ajna center of planet, just as humanity is considered the throat center and the Hierarchy the heart center. Shamballa/Shambhala, of course, would be considered the all-inclusive head center. So we can see why the Tibetan considers the NGWS to be a “intermediate between Hierarchy and Humanity”.

3. The ajna center directs, guides and shows the way, casting a beam of light forward so that men and women of goodwill can see the way ahead.

4. It is vital to realize that there is no outer organization connected with the NGWS. It is a completely subjective organism, based upon soul relations, share humanitarian ideals, a spirit of acceptance and non-criticism, and focussed service to humanity. People do not join this inner group. They qualify by the loving, illumined and spiritually willing nature of their auric emanation. Their one purpose is to serve humanity, and they are certainly to function by the AY Teaching’s injunction: “By Thy God”. Their purpose is entirely benevolent, and they certainly seek no converts. No one faith, creed, religion, philosophy, or political persuasion binds them together—only the love, light and will of the soul as they are directed towards the upliftment of humanity. We can see how different is the reality from the occasional false images of this group which have emerged for discussion.

5. The work of the Men and Women of Goodwill, is a related work, undertaken by the Lucis Trust. The attempt is to stimulate Goodwill in the world. Goodwill is considered, “Love in Action”. This is all very freeform, and Goodwill Units of Service appear here and there in order to spread practical, loving action in their local environments.

6. The work of the Triangles is very important and as DK tells us, “close to my heart”. The idea is to link men and women of goodwill in two types of imagined triangles—triangles of light, and triangles of goodwill. Three people do this work—thinking outwardly to each other in light and love. It just takes a few minutes every day. Its purpose is to reorganize the etheric network of the planet from a system of squares into a system of triangles reflective of the higher energies of the soul (and eventually spirit). It is part of the subjective redemption of humanity through light and love. This is really for the DK people, very important work.

7. Often, when people do the Triangles work, they say inwardly or outwardly the Great Invocation (which is one of the oldest and most powerful Mantrams in the annals of Shamballa/Shambhala—recently released because the time is considered right). The use of the Great Invocation we are told, helps prepare the way for the Externalization of the Spiritual Hierarchy and the Reappearance of the Maitreya/Christ/Krishna/Messiah/Imam Madhi/World Teacher. The Great invocation is the Tibetan’s translation of very old symbols in the ideographic Senzar language. Probably there is no way to translate its full potency into any modern language, but He is said to have been very happy with the results. When using the Great Invocation with certain different traditions, some changes in words are permissible—as the modern Jew may respond negatively to the word, “Christ”, so the word Messiah can be used. It is the idea behind the whole which counts.

8. Movement Towards Fulfillment: Well, these practical activities are some of the main service work done by the Lucis Trust and its affiliates all over the world. This is how the AAB people serve—principally: through Goodwill Units of Service and through the subjective work of Triangles. The Lucis Trust has been promoting all this for over seventy years, and there are many Units of Service in many countries. As well, the number of people using the Triangles method number in the many thousands. Who can count them?

6. The attempt to form an exoteric branch of the inner Ashrams.

This is evidenced in the work I have done with a special group of aspirants and accepted disciples whose instructions, emanating from my Ashram, have been embodied in the book Discipleship in the New Age (Vols. I and II). (R&I 253-254)

Michael:

1. This was an amazing experiment, which succeeded in one way and failed (temporarily) in another.

2. We are left with the result of it in the books Discipleship in the New Age, Vols. I and II.

3. The Tibetan selected about 40-50 students over the years of the early thirties, and formed them into Groups of Nine to study and develop practical skill in such disciplines as Telepathy, the Dissipation of Glamor, Magnetic and Radiatory Healing, Education, Politics, etc. He discontinued that experiment in the late 30’s because the response of the students was not what He had hoped. Then He began another with a group of 24, and this continued until 1946. During this time He also sought to begin a small externalization of His Ashram in New York City.

4. All these students received personal instruction from Him through Alice Bailey—every six months, and (during the very busy stressful years of WWII, when all the Master including DK were fighting so hard to save humanity)—perhaps every year. The letters can be read in the two volumes of Discipleship in the New Age. Also, there is so much about the New Discipleship in these volumes. It is explained very well and beautifully and never fails to inspire—at least that is the experience of many.

5. These people really received some extraordinary training. After having them work with trying to understand their rays by themselves, DK told them what they were. Often people were very far from his assessment. Many of their problems and potentials in growth and service are detailed in these letters, and we get to see examples of the New Discipleship in Action—successes and failures, seen as objectively as possible.

6. Movement Toward Fulfillment: This experiment was discontinued. If it had fulfilled DK’s expectations it might have been continued after AAB’s death in 1949, but He disbanded the groups—saying that this work had resulted in many individual spiritual successes but not the group success He had hoped for.

Throughout the world there are groups which seek to work with DK’s Ten Seed Groups. I listed five of them above, but for convenience will repeat. The ten are: Telepathy, the Dissipation of Glamor, Magnetic and Radiatory Healing, Education, Politics The New World Religion, Science, Psychology, Economics, Creative Manifestation.

Meditation Mount has done a lot with study and meditation along these lines, and so has the University of the Seven Rays. Its curriculum is very largely based on these ten groups, with some synthetic studies combining several of them.

7. Teaching upon the new world religion, with its emphasis upon the three major Full Moon periods (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, falling usually in April, May and June respectively) and the nine (occasionally ten) minor Full Moons each year. This leads to a consequent relation being established between the work of the Christ and of the Buddha in the minds of spiritually inclined people everywhere, with the result of a great broadening of the human aspiration. This work is as yet embryonic, but it should receive increasing attention. Eventually it will demonstrate as the main linking unit between the East and the West, particularly if Shri Krishna is shown to be an earlier incarnation of the Lord of Love, the Christ. Thereby three major world religions—the Christian, the Hindu and the Buddhist—will be intimately related, whilst the Mahommedan faith will be found to be linked to the Christian faith because it embodies the work of the Master Jesus as He overshadowed one of His senior disciples, a very advanced initiate, Mahomet.

Michael:

1. What is said above is very important, though we see that this work is seventh in order of importance.

2. No one knows what the New World Religion will be, but we do know that it will be universal, and that the influence of Maitreya/Christ will be potent. Probably it will be a blend of many Faiths, combined with a much greater knowledge of subtle energy.

3. In a way, Invocation and Evocation is the basis of a new and cyclic approach to Divinity. A knowledge of the times and seasons, of astrological cycles and ray cycles, is very helpful, as the rays and astrology are considered the building blocks of character, and determine the major energy qualities which humanity has at its disposal for improving the human condition.

4. As you can see many of the great Faiths are linked to each other through the Masters and high initiates Who founded them—at least from the perspective of the DK Tradition.

5. Christ/Krishna/Messiah/Imam Madhi/Maitreya—these terms denote the World Teacher and the Head of the Spiritual Hierarchy as we see it. Nothing Christian about it at all. It is a universal approach based on subtle energy, and is a thing for the future during the Aquarian Age when the study of energy will be much more sophisticated than it is now.

6. It should be realized that this New World Religion will be a religion of Love having nothing to do with conversion, pressure, coercion, etc. It is all about people uniting in soul to receive higher energies and distribute them in practical service. It is all about work for the “Common Weal” in the AY Teaching.

7. Movement Toward Fulfillment: In many, many countries, the Full Moon Meditations are held at the time of each monthly full moon. Really the Moon has nothing to do with it. These are solar Festivals, and it is Sun Power (soul power) we seek to contact. Lately we have been calling these Festivals, Solar Fire Festivals, to indicate the importance of the “fire of the heart” to be received and blended with the zodiacal sign in power at that time.

Developments along these lines are very far advanced. Little groups and big groups around the world honor these rhythms—all for the welfare of humanity and the inspiration of those who attend. These events heighten one’s will-to-serve and one’s capacity to serve.

8. The most important Festivals are Easter, Wesak and Christ’s Festival (the Festival of Goodwill) at the Aries, Taurus and Gemini Full Moons respectively. These are high points of spiritual contact for everyone. We will all feel these energies, whether or not we go to formal meditations.

Summary

Michael:

Here then, briefly and inadequately, I have given my analysis of the major objectives of DK (taken from His own words) and the activities which are related to these objectives.

As far as the “greatest achievements”, this would be very difficult to assess, and serious DK students might have different perspectives. I would say:

1. The release of a very illuminating Teaching from the Hierarchy, such that it has beneficently influenced the lives of hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. DK has said that His books are far more widely read that the average student can imagine.

2. The inspiration of thousands to pursue the New Discipleship Training. We have a statement that “the esotericist is Self-taught”. But we should not take this at face value only, because the Self is the soul and the soul is one with the Master/Guru. Nevertheless, as the Buddha insisted, Self-reliance is foundational.

3. The creation of the global Triangles Network. This of course, is so important, and obviously there is always room for its expansion and the improvement of its quality.

4. The stimulation of Men and Women of Goodwill all over the world. Active goodwill as “love in action” is the intended result. It could always be better, obviously, and so many of us fail to live up to the goodwill which DK and AAB enjoined upon us. Perhaps from the events of the last two or so weeks, you have gathered the impression that students of Bailey are not people of goodwill. Such is not the case. We all have our moments when we are not as loving and radiantly representative of the Hierarchy as we could be. Who is immune? I can never cast the first stone. We will all improve.

5. The stimulation of Global Esoteric Education projects all over the world. We have begun inaugurating some of the New Esoteric Schools of which DK predicts there will be 14—two of them in the USA, and others in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Sweden, Russia Scotland/Wales, Ireland, France, Greece or Syria, Egypt, Italy.

This is a project which will take centuries, but a small beginning is in process. I think this is an achievement but it has a long way to go.

Anyway, these are my opinions, but others, more knowledgeable than I , might differ significantly from my assessment. But it should give you an idea.

Commonalties Between DK’s and M’s Teaching (Agni Yoga)

This is perhaps the main point. Some have said that M’s and DK’s Teachings are utterly incompatible. If, however, They are both Masters of the Wisdom, which I profoundly believe and know They are, then, although the emphases of Their beautiful Teachings will differ, these Teachings will both serve the Great Truth emanating from Shamballa/Shambhala.

1. Both Teachings work for the Common Good, Common Weal, the welfare of humanity.

2. Both respect the arts and sciences, and the various lines of service which will lead humanity forward. The Banner of Peace suggests this, as do the Ten Seed Groups—ten modes of service.

3. Both Traditions honor Shamballa/Shambhala, and the Great Being who there presides: Rigden Japo (is my spelling correct?) or, in our language, the Great Sacrifice, etc. as above. Both Traditions ultimately seek to serve His great and holy Will.

4. Both Traditions seek to work strenuously for the Spiritual Hierarchy of the Planet.

5. Both Traditions believe in the Masters of the Wisdom, work for these Masters, and love these Masters. Both traditions hold Master M and Master DK (and KH) in the highest regard. AY holds DK in esteem. It is just that the thought has been put forward that AAB did not work with the real DK. Of course, AAB students believe she did, and believe they have ample evidence to support this view given the breadth, depth and tremendous heartfelt humanitarianism of the Tibetan’s teaching and the work that it is intended to inspire. His emphasis in constantly on selfless service.

6. Both Traditions believe in the higher worlds and the need for these higher worlds to pervade the lower strata. They may call these inner and higher worlds by different names, but the worlds are the same.

7. Both Traditions believe that discipleship is no easy thing and requires a lot of work and training. In both cases contact with the Masters is considered of prime importance for continuing progress on this Path of Development.

8. Both Teachings believe in the value of the group. AY calls this “Community”. DK calls it Group Consciousness—a major step beyond the selfishness of pure individualism (a necessary stage in the developmental process but now to be outlived. Nevertheless, the individuality is retained, fully vibrant and expressive and utilized for the sake of the Greater Whole.

9. Both Traditions fight strenuously against Evil and the Black Lodge which presently is the center of concentrated evil upon our planets. If we could only realize, together, that we have common enemies, perhaps that would bring us closer in comradeship. Your real enemies are our real enemies—the enemies of Humanity, of Maitreya, and of His Hierarchy.

10. Both Traditions seek that the Great Ones will again work more actively and powerfully among us, and believe that that day is coming. What we will all have to go through to get there is not known, but given our dark opponents it would be better if we were friends than mistaking each other for enemies.

It is my sincere hope that those who have doubted the value and benevolence of the DK/AAB presentation, will see it in a new light. I am not one calling for a dilution of Agni Yoga or a mixing of incompatible elements. But a perspective of wholeness will, I think, make us all stronger, and will show that we are, after all, serving One Spiritual Hierarchy, along the lines of differing energy expressions.

Ultimately we all serve Maitreya, Who, in the DK Teachings, is the Great Leader of the Masters. He represents the growth of Love-Wisdom in the human heart, and the possibility of a truly loving interplay between the members of presently warring humanity. I cannot think that He Whom all the Masters serve, would want us to be fighting with each other, when we could be cooperating and reinforcing the goodness which is in each of our Traditions. Therefore, “For the sake of Maitreya and the glory of His Name”, I ask that we be true friends within the Light and Love of Hierarchy.

Krishnamurti remains probably one of the most controversial figures of the twentieth century and has been the subject of several biographies, but none to date that has exhaustively treated the subject from an astrological viewpoint – as the above title indicates.

One of Krishnamurti’s (K) more well known associations is with that of the Theosophical Society [1] who hailed him as the medium for The Christ or World Teacher. However, he basically rejected the mantle of World Teacher or being a medium for The Christ (also called Lord Maitreya); this was the plan that was laid down by his Masters, and of course his own soul ‘agreement’, before he incarnated. K exercised his free will and chose the path he thought best.

Because of the hype generated by the Theosophical Society and the media for his proposed role on the world stage, K publicly turned his back on the Masters. It was not that he denied their existence, but basically saw them as just one more authority that had to be ignored if one was to fulfill soul purpose.
A leading light of the TS was Charles Leadbeater, occultist and clairvoyant, who first discovered K as a 15 year old boy playing on a beach near Chennai in India. Leadbeater said that it was one of the most wonderful auras that he had ever seen and ‘without a particle of selfishness in it’.[2]

From there K was cultivated by the TS via his two mentors, Leadbeater and Annie Besant. He was educated and anglicised over a number of years, as a gradual grooming for his future role as World Teacher, that theosphists rightly recognised as his destiny.

However, as with all groups, certain crystallisations and illusions set in, wherein the original organism becomes an organisation. Power struggles and internal politics were going on constantly, not to mention a somewhat idealistic fervour whipped up over K’s future role on the world stage.

All the while K was going through recapitulations of initiations he had taken in previous lives, and was well supported and nurtured by Besant and Leadbeater in this process. As he was approaching his Third Initiation, K’s ‘process’ was extremely painful as his crown chakra was opening up. Approaching his late 20’s, he became increasingly disenchanted with TS politics, and eventually so fed up that he left the society. Just before this he said: “There is a quiet rebellion within me, surging quietly but surely…you don’t know how I abhor the whole thing, all the people coming to meet us, the meetings and the devotional stuff. It all goes against my nature and I am not fit for this job.” [3]

The rebellion in K can certainly be seen in his horoscope, with the planet of rebellion and revolution placed opposite his somewhat stubborn Taurus sun, and ‘T-squaring’ his Aquarian ascendant.

Notwithstanding, by 1925 he had taken these two higher initiations, or expansions of consciousness, and was starting to develop his own philosophy, brought out in one of his famous speeches where he stated “Truth is a pathless land.”

He urged his followers to reject authority, which included gurus and the Masters, yet he refused to be an authority or leader to them.

Krishnamurti had a ‘Parsifal-like simplicity’ - in his highly advanced unfolded consciousness, he did not realise that most of his audiences were nowhere near his stage of the spiritual path. Yet he talked to them as if they were, while many were still struggling with far lesser stages of unfoldment.

In this respect he left many people foundering by asking them to reject everything else, but not providing anything that was understandable for them to use.

Even the Lord Maitreya purportedly said: “…although Krishnamurti was right to emphasise the necessity for independent thought, he was wrong in assuming that everyone else, regardless of past Karma and present limitations, could instantly reach that point which he himself had only reached through lives of effort, and by the aid of those Cosmic Forces apportioned him solely for his office as Herald of the New Age.” [4]
K dropped another bombshell when he dissolved the Order of the Star, a group set up soley to promote him. By this time there were many theosophists totally disenchanted with K, yet his popularity in other parts of the world with new audiences discovering him was not waning.

Krishnamurti went on to teach in many places around the world to thousands upon thousands of people. His Moon in Sagittarius is a symbol of the teacher who contains within him a treasury of wisdom. His Moon was opposite Venus in Gemini, planet and sign of engaging dialogue and communication. As Jupiter conjoined Venus, this dialogue was extremely philosophical and expansive.

At various times before and after K’s disassociation from the TS and the Order of the Star, the ‘over-shadowing’ process from Lord Maitreya was tangible and real: “All at once the hall filled with a tremendous power which was so evidently flowing through Krishna…everyone in the room was most powerfully affected…one of the greatest experiences of our lives.” [5]

The initiation process is determined astrologically: “The times and seasons are ascertained through esoteric solar and cosmic astrology; this being based, of course, on the correct figures, the true mathematical conception, and a real knowledge of the basic facts concerning the planets and the solar system. The horoscope of the initiate is also invariably cast so as to check the time for an individual initiation, and only when the individual signs blend and coincide with the ceremonial chart by which the Initiator is guided, is it possible to perform the ceremony. This is the reason why sometimes initiation has to be postponed to a later life, even when the initiate has done the necessary work.” [6]
The author’s enquiry into the propitious times for initiation has been minutely investigated, and significant dates fulfill the required criteria for the specific initiations. For instance, Mars and the Moon are said to cause a ‘fearful conflict’ at the Third Initiation. Mars in K’s horoscope was certainly taking a pounding from transiting Pluto at the time, and his Moon was returning to its natal position by secondary progression.

There have been many techniques given for esoteric interpretation of a horoscope, and The Initiations of Krishnamurti certainly attempts to apply many of these in the most practical way possible.

Krishnamurti had several ongoing interactions with his Masters throughout his life, including some major events that occurred around 1948, with a resumption of his process and the pain associated with that. He went on to produce many books from his dialogues and talks, and lived until 1986, where he finally passed over at the age of 91.

One major insight that comes from studying Krishnamurti’s chart is his humanity. Even at his advanced stage he had an imperfect personality that his soul had to utilise. He still had a shadow that needed redeeming, and he worked in a world of duality.

The Dalai Lama has called Krishnamurti one of the greatest philosophers of the twentieth century, quite an accolade coming from such an auspicious leader. Krishnamurti’s philosophy has polarised many in the spiritual communities of the world, yet his life was extraordinary and he made people think.

There remains the extraordinary paradox that K took the Arhat initiation of liberation, yet in some quarters his incarnation was not regarded as successful. Yet he demonstrated his humanity, his affection, vunerability and genius, inspiring many, and by that measure the incarnation was surely a success.

The Theosophical Society was founded by the so-called Masters of Wisdom
or Hierarchy of Enlightened Being, through their amanuensis, H.P.
Blavatsky. Other names for them throughout history have been the Elder
Brothers, The Secret College and The Great White Brotherhood.

If it is difficult to accept the fact of their existence, ask yourself
the question, where do the Masters of all the different traditions
"go", after they have attained Liberation or Enlightenment ?

The term Master implies mastery over life; complete control of the
material side of life and perfection in human living as far as is
possible in earth evolution.

There is a point of perfection reached in evolution in all kingdoms of
nature which is always relative to the overall evolution of the
"greater life", in our case this planet and later the solar system.

It helps to understand the solar system as the incarnation of a great Life, of which the Earth and her kingdoms are a part.

Is it not logical then, that all perfected lives go on to evolve with
the rest of the solar system ? - all is in a state of flux, movement
and change.

There are choices though, as humanity has always had : some may have
moved on to more obscure evolutions within the planet, others to
different planets in the solar system, and many will follow their
evolution well beyond the solar system.

Groups of Masters always existed throughout ages, whatever tradition
you look at : Buddhist, Celtic, Christian, Egyptian, Hindu, Jewish or
Sufi. The one common thread these exalted beings have had is their deep
wisdom and love for their fellow humanity, coupled with an unerring
will that has demonstrated truth and beauty in their lives.

Their examples of perfected living have inspired millions throughout
history, as the many life waves that pour through the planet, have
evolved, learnt and got off the "wheel of sangsara".

Many perfected beings have moved to other evolutions, yet a certain
percentage have always chosen to "tarry" in the earthly realms a little
longer, "until the last weary pilgrim reaches home".

These Masters watch over and guide human evolution, always allowing for
the inviolable karmic right of humanity to exercise their free will, no
matter how misguided at times.

They have the task of holding their chosen offices for immense periods
of time, in order to effect the manifestation of the "Plan", the
"blueprints" that exist in the mind of "God"; that immense
consciousness which has chosen to incarnate as this planet, whose
personality expression is known as Sanat Kumara, Melchisidec, or the
Ancient of Days.

An "initiate" is one whose has become self-initiated through their own
initiative. Through dint of their own persistent endeavours, through
"fighting their way into a greater measure of light", they have earned
the spiritual responsibility to wield great power. Hence there are only
a small number of them needed on the planet at any one time, yet they
vacate their positions periodically to allow other qualifying members
of the "great life wave" to take their places.

Egypt and the Himalayas have been the main enclaves of the Masters
since Atlantean times. Hence both these places were visited by H.P.
Blavatsky when she received the "Call" to be their messenger.

The 1880s saw the first public proclamation of the existence of the
Masters in recent human history, and it was done through HPB, the
setting up of the Theosophical Society, and the transmission of The
Secret Doctrine.

These secret teachings had previously been "ear-whispered truths"
passed on to those aspirants and disciples in various traditions
throughhout the ages.

Esoteric lore given to the profane or those not properly prepared will
cause misuse or abuse. However, it was deemed that humanity, by cyclic
karmic right, had reached the stage whereby further "light"
(wisdom/knowledge) could be imparted.

The 1880's was the outgoing peak of a cycle that started in 1425. It
coincided with the Centennial Conclave of the Masters, who did some
forward planning, according to the specific energy and karma of that
cycle.

Much of the Secret Doctrine was seen as the catalyst for a new cycle,
which was taking into account the great war of Atlantean times, whose
karma was starting to cycle back, and which manifested as the two world
wars this century, esoterically seen as one.

Hence the interesting fact that much symbolism and information was
gleaned from the Secret Doctrine by the Axis nations in their bid for
absolute power, the Nazis being the vehicle for the same materialistic
forces in Atlantean times. The most obvious symbol was that of the
swastika and its reversal. (See "Occult Roots of Nazism")

It has not been since the days of Atlantis that all the Masters of
Wisdom have externalised openly amongst humanity, and last century was
the start of a gradual externalisation process that will culminate with
the "reappearance" of the Christ in physical form, the "Master of all
Masters, angels and humanity alike". The karma is to do with coming to
finish what was started 2000 years ago, and taking over the role of the
Buddha, becoming in fact the new Maitreya.

Helena Petrovna Blavatsky was born in Russia in 1831 and died in 1891. She led a very colourful and adventurous life.

As early as six years old she lived near the border of Tibet and showed
an interest in Mongolian Buddhism. She was also trained to ride horses
by the fabled Cassocks, and frequently road over the border into Tibet.

Later, after she escaped an unhappy arranged marriage at a young age,
her adventurous spirit led her to fight alongside Garibaldi the Italian
revolutionary; she was left for dead after one battle but miraculously
survived.

In her travels by herself in Europe and Asia she frequently "packed a
pistol" to protect herself; a single woman traveller was unheard of in
her day.

There are many other stories about HPB and time has made the
distinction between fact and fiction somewhat dubious. But there is an
indomitable courage that comes through this Leonine lady, that was
certainly needed in her role as a destroyer of an old culture and
explorer of a new one.

She was a "Messenger of the Masters", an advanced initiate choosing to
incarnate in a female body, which partially gave her the great
sensitivity needed to be a telepathic emmanuensis.

In 1868 she was "called" to Tibet by the Master Morya for training at
Shigatse, an abode of a few of the Masters, near Trashi Lunpo
monastery.(150 miles west/sou-west of Lhasa, and home of the Panchen or
Trashi Lama)

Later she came in contact with the Egyptian Brotherhood at Luxor.

There are many biographies which detail her life activities, and this is only a sketch of the essence.

She made many sacrifices as an advanced initiate, and was encumbered
with physical disabilities such as dropsy, kidney disease and obesity -
one way for residual karma to rapidly burn itself off.

Any who come to break down the old, encounter resistance to new ideas,
and are usually persecuted for it. This would have added to the strain
on her -mentally, emotionally and physically.

The forces of materialism, working through many people consciously and
unconsciously, tried to oppose her ground-breaking acts, through lying
propaganda, innuendo and psychic attack.

Speculation about HPB often exceeded information and understanding. She
endured much public derision and slander and still does from the
ignorant.

Some biographies do HPB, Theosophy and The Secret Doctrine no justice,
even though factually correct, they tend to focus on the intrigues of
events and personalities, rather than the essence of ideas;
particularly academics of a concrete disposition, who just "don't get
it" when it comes to spiritual matters; only the ignorant can pass
superficial judgement on HPB's work.

HPB influenced others such as Gurdjieff, Rudolph Steiner and The Golden
Dawn. Many authors prolifically refer to The Secret Doctrine. She was
an agent of destruction for the old culture; she came to dismantle it,
and was an enzyme for the new culture.

HPB challenged doctrines that were the cradle of old culture, whilst
her great intellectual acumen took on the finest minds of the time in
the realm of science and religion. She understood thesis, antithesis
and synthesis, and was able to give convincing rational argument in any
debate.

She reinterpreted the doctrinal structure of the mental plane and
culture, demonstrating the "power of the mind to slay the real". Her
committment was to release humanity from the slavery of dogma. She
possessed the "Atma Vidya", the root source of all knowledge, which
synthesises all schools of thought.

Her presence opened dialogue for the idea of the brotherhood of
humanity; this paved the way for the first tentative steps towards the
Theosphical Society.

Her first book, Isis Unveiled, was "a plea for the recognition of
Hermetic philosophy and the ancient universal wisdom religion". It was
a fusion of science and religion and an argument against the
materialistic doctrines of the time. It is very complex as HPB's
English was not too good, and the Masters were also experimenting with
methods of "impressing" her; if it were re-written with modern quotes
it would be a very good book.

The Secret Doctrine was her "magnum opus" and still has not had its secrets unravelled.

"Cosmogenesis" (Book 1) is the study of the origin and development of
the universe. "Anthropogenesis" (Book 2) is the study of the origin and
development of humanity. Both draw upon the most arcane aspects of all
spiritual disciplines.

The Secret Doctrine is a synthesis of world religions and mythologies, showing the golden thread running through them all.

The "Book of Dzyan" is the skeleton of Secret Doctrine. It is the first
volume of fourteen volumes of commentaries on the seven secret folios
of Kiu-Ti. There are 35 "exoteric" volumes of these in most Tibetan
monasteries, but they are full of gross distortions and exaggerations.
The Book of Dzyan is kept separate from the other volumes by the Teshu
Lama of Tjigad-je.

"Dzyan" comes from "Dhyana", meaning "spiritual meditation". It is with
this attitude that these teachings should be approached, not purely
with the lop-sided western analytical method.

Three sets of books of Kiu-Ti :

1) 7 secret volumes
2) 14 volumes of Commentaries, annotations and a glossary for Initiates.
3) 35 exoteric volumes.

The Tibetans are among the last of the subraces of the Atlantean
rootrace, and have been the custodians, along with Egypt and India, of
this ancient wisdom.

Knowledge paves the way for Wisdom, yet these teachings cannot be penetrated without some wisdom or heart understanding.

Hardly any of the public or Theosophists have studied, or really done
these works any justice. The Masters have given a great gift to
humanity, but it is not yet being fully utilised.

Some of us may have read, but who has studied The Secret Doctrine ?
Even today there are not many serious students of the Secret Doctrine.

The Secret Doctrine was a "secondary revelation" - conveyed from its
source to the outer plane. The Master Djwhal Khul (The Tibetan), who
transmitted a great deal of the text to HPB, said later of TS members :
"There, the minds of humanity, veiled by illusion and clouded by
glamour, formulated it into an inelastic doctrine, recognising no
further revelation and holding steadily that it was the final
revelation..."

Divine knowledge leads to Wisdom; it is a scaffolding for learning the
ultimate lessons of Love, which eventually bring about Liberation.

Theosophy means literally "Wisdom pertaining to the Gods" or, Wisdom of God in his many forms.

The motto of the TS is : "There is no religion higher than truth" - it
offers a forum for ideas and traditions. Theosophists come from many
traditions.

Their credo is : "To form a nucleus of the universal brotherhood of
humanity, without distinction of race, creed, caste or colour",
emphasising the uniqueness of all cultures, yet that which binds them
together.

When we understand the "life-wave" as taught in Theosophy and the
etheric web which underlies all of physical reality, it is impossible
too feel separation towards one's fellow human beings.

All souls in this life wave are equal, there is simply a relativity of
some being younger and some older in their experience. This realisation
also extends to other kingdoms such as the animal, when the vast cycles
of time (yugas) are comprehended. We are simply the manifold
differentiation of a vast Life.

In the human kingdom this Life expresses through the "vehicles" of
religion, philosophy, science, arts, commerce and industry. Human
nature grows in its virtues and capacities through these areas of life
experience.

Adyar is the name of the TS headquarters in India, where there was much
of the original focus for the establishment of the society and the
promulgation of The Secret Doctrine. HPB lived there and it was also a
convenient place for some of the Himalayan Masters to "drop by".

India is the cradle of civilisation as we know it, and our western
races are simply subraces of that ancient race; she stands in an unique
position for synthesising both East and West. The Secret Doctrine seeks
to demonstate this unity.

The smell of space will linger for the seven astronauts aboard the space shuttle Discovery long after they return to Earth on Saturday.

"One thing I've heard people say before, but it wasn't so obvious, was the smell right when you open up that hatch," Discovery pilot Dominic "Tony" Antonelli said after a March 21 spacewalk. "Space definitely has a smell that's different than anything else."

The odor, Antonelli said, could be smelled once spacewalkers locked the station airlock's outer hatch and reopened the inner door.

Discovery is set to land at 1:39 p.m. EDT (1739 GMT) tomorrow at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida after a 13-day mission that delivered a new crewmember and the final set of U.S. solar wings to the International Space Station. It was after each of the three spacewalks performed by the shuttle crew that the spaceflyers detected the distinctive odor of space.

Like ozone, or gunpowder

Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata, who launched to the station aboard Discovery and stayed behind when it left to join the outpost's crew, said he also could smell the odd odor that wafted in from outside the station. But both Antonelli and Wakata, who helped Discovery's spacewalkers climb in and out of their spacesuits, could not put words to the distinctive out-of-this-world scent.

Former NASA astronaut Thomas Jones, a veteran of three spacewalks before retiring from spaceflying in 2001, thinks the odor could stem from atomic oxygen that clings to spacesuit fabric.

"When you repressurize the airlock and get out of your suit, there is a distinct odor of ozone, a faint acrid smell," Jones told SPACE.com, adding that the smell is also similar to burnt gunpowder or the ozone smell of electrical equipment. "It's not noticeable inside the suit. The suit smells like plastic inside."

The smell, he adds, only occurs on a shuttle or the space station after a spacewalk and is unmistakable to astronauts working with the spacesuits and equipment that was used in the vacuum of space.

"In those tight spaces, your nose gets right next to the fabric," Jones said. "I like to think of it as getting a whiff of vacuum!"

Headed home

The three spacewalks performed by Discovery's crew occurred between March 19 and Monday as the astronauts installed the space station's final set of solar arrays to boost the orbiting laboratory to full power.

The shuttle ferried Wakata — Japan's first long-term resident — to the space station, where he replaced NASA astronaut Sandra Magnus as a member of the outpost's three-person crew. Magnus is returning home aboard Discovery to complete a 4 1/2-month mission to the space station. The shuttle undocked from the space station on Wednesday.

Discovery astronauts spent Friday checking the shuttle's systems for its planned landing tomorrow and speaking with students at Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii, President Barack Obama's high school alma mater. The spaceflyers spoke with President Obama before departing the space station.

Introduction

At the heart of the Cosmos there is ONE.
That ONE has its sanctuary and shrine in te heart of every human being.
Man's first major spiritual discovery in consciousness is of this Divine presence within him, "The Inner Ruler Immortal seated in the hearts of all beings".( the Bhagavad Gita)

Thereafter, identity with the One Alone, fully conscious absorption "like water in water, space in space, light in light".
Atma-Bodha,Shankaracharya for evermore in the eternal, self-existent All, is achieved.
This is man's ultimate goal.
Regular, wisely directed meditation can hasten its attainment.
The first objective in meditation is to discover one's own Spiritual Selfhood as distinct from the personal vehicles,
physical, emotional and mental and the consciousness active within them.
Devotees of a certain temperament- others might not be helped by this method- begin therefore, with an exercise in dissociation, seeking both to realise the distinction between the Immortal Ego and its mortal, personal vehicles and to know the Spiritual Self.

To know the knower may appear impossible to the analytical mind. The seeming paradox is, however, resolved at the level of the synthesising and intuïtive intelligence in man, his prophetic mind, to which in meditation the centre of consciousness is deliberately raised.
The second objective is to realise that the Spiritual Self of man is forever an integral part of the Spiritual Self of the Universe, the all pervading Surpreme Lord, the Solar Logos.
Man is one with God and through That with all that lives.
Man-Spirit and God-Spirit are ONE Spirit and to know this truth of truths transforms life.

The discovery of the Godhead within one and its unity with the Godhead in All, these two discoveries are experiences in consciousness and the positive use of the creative imagination in meditation can help one to gain those experiences.
The dissociation practice is therefore followed by affirmations of the unity of man with god.
These affirmations can lead the devotee into silent contemplation and deepening experience of unity with the all-pervading and transcendent Deity, the nameless, selfless, One Alone.

Spiritual achievement by one man makes easier and brings nearer the same achievement by all men.
Realisation of this fact provides part of the motive in Yoga.

The would be Yogi is, however, also insistently inwardly impelled; for him or her "there is no other path at all to go". (Shvetashvatara Upanishad,VI, 15.

This booklet is offeredas preliminary guidance- eventually each finds his own way- to those thus moved who seek systematic procedure in consciousness by a well-tried and safe method. to be continued:

A method of personal and group meditation

Group meditation is directed with suitable pauses by a leader as follows

PREPARATION:

Body relaxed.
Emotion hamonised.
Mind alert and charged with will.
Centre of awareness established in the Higher Self, the Spiritual Soul , the immortal Ego.

DISSICIATION;

Mentally affirm and realise:

I am not the physical body.
I am the Spiritual Self.

I am not the emotions.
I am the spiritual Self.

I am not the mind.
I am the Spiritual Self.

MEDITATION;

I am the Divine Self (think of the monad)
Immortal.
Eternal.
Radiant with Spiritual Light.
I am that Self of Light,
that self am I.
The Self in me, the Atma(spirit essence of man) is one with the Self in All, the Paramâtma (the spirit essence of the universe, its presending Intelligence, the Solar logos, our lord of the sun)
I am that Self in All; tat Self am I.
The Atma and the Paramâtma are one.
I am that, that am I.

CLOSING;

Bring the centre of awareness ;

Into the formal mind, illumined and responsive to the intuïtion.
Into the emotions, irradiated by Spiritual Light.
Into the body, empowered by Spiritual Will, inwardly vitalised, and Self-recollected throughout the day,
remembering the Divine Presence in the heart, the Inner Ruler Immortal, seated in the hearts of all beïngs.
Relax the mind and permit the uplifting effect of the meditationto extend into all the other activities of the day

The same procedure should be followed in private, self - directed meditation.

to be continued with Commentary on the meditation

Commentary on the meditation.

Two objectives are sought in meditation:
I. Egoic consciousness.
II.Realisation of oneness with the Supreme Lord and life of the Universe.

This achievement is governed by certain fixed laws which must be obeyed, if full success is to be obtained

1. Physically they are:

Privacy and freedom from intrusion.
Complete bodily relaxation, without which the consciousness cannot wholly free itself from entanglement in the physical brain and body.
So, deliberately, as a regular practice and an art, every nerve and every muscle should be completely relaxed and the body be comfortable and at ease.
Relaxation is to meditation what the engagement of the first two hooks of the zipper is to its closure.
If the first two hooks engage, it will zip.
If they do not engage, it will never zip.
Similarly, physical relaxations essential to the flight of the Soul.

Breathing should be slowed down to about one third or one half of the normal rate.
This generally becomes automatic as the meditation proceeds

Posture during meditation should permit added measures of Kundalini ( the electric, creative Life Force resident in the Sacrum) and Prana ( the Life breath of the Universe) to flow from the Sacrum along the Spinal cord into the brain.
The spine, therefore should be kept straight and except in eastern yoga postures, neither legs nor arms should be crossed.
The Egyptian position is very suitable for Westerners. Head pain is one warning of error in technique which should be corrected before continuing.

2. The Astral Nature needs to be harmonious and calm.
Friction, tension and discordant emotions can also prevent the flight of Soul and inhibit the freedom of consciousness.

3. The Mind must be alert, the will must be positive, otherwise a kind of dreamy imaginativeness can be mistaken for spiritual experience , of which it is the antithesis.

By these means the triple , personal nature is brought to a condition in which its imprisonment of consciousness is reduced to a minimum.
This is not sufficient, however, and consciousness must deliberately free itself.
The practice of dissociation from them therefore follows the preparation of the bodies
This is directed as follows:
THE CENTRE OF AWARENESS IS ESTABLISHED IN THE HOGHER SELF, THE SPIRITUAL SOUL, THEIMMORTAL EGO.
MENALLY AFFIRM AND REALISE;
I AM NOT THE PHYSICAL BODY. i AM THE SPIRITUAL SELF.
I AM NOT THE EMOTIONS. IAM THE SPIRITUAL SELF.
I AM NOT THE MIND. IAM THE SPIRITUAL SELF.

At this point, in creative imagination the centre of observation, awareness , I-ness, is withdrawn from the physical brain and centred in the Ego (the unfolding, spiritual individuality).
Similarly ,also, the consciousness is withdrawn from the emotional and mental bodies and centred in the Causal Body ( the vehicle of consciousness at the level of abstract thought).

This procedure may later become unnecessary.
Regular practice with full intent and determination, allowing the positive imagination to have full play, will transfer the whole concentration of awareness and existence from the mortal to the immortal man, to the Ego in the Causal Body.

There then follows an attempted ascent towards the Monad, aspiring to reach Atmic consciousness.

THE LEADER CONTINUES;
I AM THE DIVINE SELF, ( MANAS).
IMMORTAL,( BUDDI).= the Spirit Life of Universe and man Intuïtive Wisdom.
ETERNAL, (ATMA ).

Realisation of the Self as pure Spiritual Will( Atma) is here the objective.

REDIANT WITH SPIRITUAL LIGHT. ( the Light of the logos, Daivi-Pakriti).

It is helpful to think of oneself as a centre of pure, white light, radiating throughout the Universe.
Identifying oneself fully in consciousness with that light, the devotee affirms:

I AM THAT SELF OF LIGHT. THAT SELF AM i.

Regular practice by this method eventually enables one to achieve this transference of consciousness from physical, emotional and mental levels to higher mental, intuïtional and purely spiritual states of awareness.
The Self is then realised as a radiant centre of Universal, Spiritual Light, concentrated into a point of brilliant light.
Movement in consciousness towards the second objective in meditation then follows. This culminates in realisation of the Unity of the SpiritualSelf as Light with the One Light, with the Supreme,All-pervading Spirit of the Universe.
Concentration and meditation upon the Atmic Self merges into absorbed contemplation of union with the Paramâtma, the Transcendent and Immanent Atmic Self of All.

THE LEADER THEREFORE CONTINUES;

THE SELF IN ME, THE ATMA, IS ONE WITH THE SELF IN ALL, THE PARAMATMA.

Here, according to temperament, consciousness is directed towards realisation of the identy of the Atma, the Spirit-Self in man, with the Paramâtma, the Spirit-Self in all Nature.
The manifested Supreme Deity of our Universe, the Solar Logos, may here be thought of, with ardent aspiration to realise oneness with Him.one may visualise the spiritual heart of the Sun and oneself as in union therewith.
The words The Atma and the Paramâtma are one, constitude a somewhat mantric(word or sentence of power) phrase despite the mixture of English and Sanskrit.
It is a sentence of power which defines the summit of human attainment in consciousness, which is full realisation of unity and identity with the OneSelf in All.
In consequence , the final affirmation is:

I AM THAT. THAT I AM.

The sense of separated selfhood eventually vanishes.
Prolonged, thought-free realisation of identity with God ultimately alone remains.
After the preliminary stages of Yoga, the formal mind is stilled and is thereafter maintained in that fixity of mind in which no breeze can waft an earthly thought within.
Thought ceases.
Stillness pervades the whole nature, which can become steeped in peace, even though immense expansion and dynamic power are being experienced at the highest, most spiritual levels of human awareness.
As much time as can be spared should then be spent in mind-free contemplation of unity with God, and through
Him or That with the Spiritual Self in All that lives.
THE RETURN TO PHYSICAL AWARENESS:

When, at last, meditation must cease, it is important to return to the brain consciousness by the same route followed on the upward journey.
One reason for this is that channels between the lower self and the Higher Self are being opened by concentrated effort, and should be used in both the ascent and the return of consciousness; for by this means they are both widened and kept opened.
Another reason for returning through the mental and emotional bodies is that it is eminently desirable to bring the full fruits of spiritual experience into the personal vehicles, thereby enlightening and purifying them and quickening their evolution.
This is a third objective in meditation, to quicken the evolution of the bodies of mind, emotion and flesh by a powerful descent ( diagrammatically only; actually an emergence from within outwards occurs) of spiritual force and experience.

THE CENTRE OF AWARENESS;

It is important to discover one’s centre of awareness and the level at which it is operating, as also to be able to place it in any one of the vehicles at will.
If a piece of work demands operation from the mental level, one must be able to function there.
If one’s actual presence in the astral plane and body is needed, then one must be able to focus oneself there.
We generally do this last unconsciously.
Intellectual interest place the centre of awareness in the mind and the brain.
Cultural, artistic and pleasure giving persuits focus it automatically in the emotions and the heart.
Success in meditation demands good control of this movement of one’s centre of life and consciousness. The process, therefore, is deliberately practised and forms part of this method of meditation. When closing the yoga practice, awareness is strongly centred in he mental body, into which the light from the higher worlds is powerfully brought, and the mind is thrown open to the intuition. This is possible because thoughts are things. We powerfully quicken the evolution of our personal vehicles by thus infusing and interpenetrating them with SpiritPower from those levels to which we have sought to ascend.

THE LEADER THEREFORE SAYS;

BRING THE CENTRE OF AWARENESS INTO THE FORMAL MIND, ILLUMINED; AND RESPONSIVETO INTUÍTION.

After a suitable pause, the instruction then is:
INTO THE EMOTIONS, IRRADIATED BY SPIRITUAL LIGHT.

By a strong effort of will a shaft of pure white atmic fire is brought down from above, to transfix the astral body as by a spear. Such spiritualisation of the astral body causes the coarser material and the undesirable emotional states to be driven out by the more powerful, spiritual forces.
This is part of the meaning of such glyphs as St George slaying the dragon with his spear and Shri Krishna overcoming Kâliya, the black serpent, and then dancing upon its hood, as also of all other victories by Saviours and heroes over reptiles referred to in other World Scriptures.
These stories partly represent phases of yoga dramatised and pictorially described.
Then, finally, awareness is focussed in the physical body.
This should be done quite deliberately, placing the centre of consciousness in the middle of the head,
Where it normally abides.
The powers of the triple Self are then brought down into the body, the leader saying;
INTO THE BODY, EMPOWERED BY SPIRITUAL WILL.
The fire of Atma is thus established in the body as an irresistible Will Force, available in waking consciousness.
INWARDLY VITALISED.
At the words , the Buddhic Life , the one life , the spiritual Prana , is visualised as flooding and filling the whole physical body, which may then be thought of as charged with its golden life and light, vividly alive, often with much benefit to health.
The Higher Mind then applies control to the lower mind, to the emotions and the body. These are to be: SELF RECOLLECTED throughout the Day.
Meaning calm, poised, mindful. Rooted in the Eternal.
To bring this about the closing words and thought are:
REMEMBERING THE DIVINE PRESSENCE IN THE HEART, THE INNER RULER IMMORTAL, SEATEDIN THE HEARTS OF ALL BEINGS.
This presence is the MONAD EGO , the Spirit Self, present in the heart, not only of oneself, but of all beings.
In itself this practice of self recollection is quietening and peace giving; it keeps the consciousness centred in interior reality and never wholly absorbed in the external, transitory world.
One should not break or emerge from meditation suddenly, lest there be a shock to the nervous system and a quick casting aside and partial loss of the inner experience. This should always be avoided, and one should withdraw gradually from the meditative state before talking up the duties of the day. In their fulfilment, the daily life should conform as closely as possible to the accepted spiritual ideals.
The end. GH.

What is Falun Dafa?

Falun Dafa (also called Falun Gong, or just Dafa) is a high-level cultivation practice guided by the characteristics of the universe—Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance.

"Cultivation" means continuously striving to better harmonize oneself with these universal principles. “Practice” refers to the exercises – five sets of easy-to-learn gentle movements and meditation. Cultivating oneself is essential; practicing the exercises supplements the process.

Over time, the principles of Dafa unveil the deepest and most profound truths of the universe. Following the principles, practitioners of Falun Dafa are able to reach very high realms, enlightening to the true meanings of life, and finding the path of return to their origins and true selves.

While the exercises have deep inner meanings, they also help to reduce stress and can bring great improvements in health and fitness.

The Beginnings

Falun Dafa has an ancient history. It was passed down over the ages from a single master to a single disciple in each generation. The disciple would later have a disciple of his own, to whom he would pass on the teachings, thereby quietly passing the practice down throughout history.

In 1992, Mr. Li Hongzhi (referred to respectfully by practitioners as "Master" or "Teacher") first taught Falun Dafa publicly in the city of Changchun, China, and then continued to lecture all across the country. Those who attended experienced such profound benefits that they told friends and family. As a result, the number of practitioners grew very quickly, solely by word of mouth. By 1998, at least 70 million people had taken up the practice in China alone.

Today, Dafa is practiced and cherished by over 100 million people in over 80 countries, and has received a plethora of honors.

Practitioners do the second exercise in East London, South Africa.
More About the Practice

Cultivators of Falun Dafa strive to cultivate their xinxing [mind-nature, or character] and remove their attachments to become kinder, more honest and more patient people. The higher one is able to elevate xinxing, the deeper the understanding one has of the teachings presented in Zhuan Falun (Falun Dafa’s primary text).

Falun Dafa practitioners cultivate themselves while living normally in the complex environment of secular society. People of all nationalities, races, socio-economic backgrounds, gender, ages, occupations, and different faiths are welcome to practice, and do so entirely of their own free will, at their own pace, and for as long as they choose.
The Falun

A prominent feature of Falun Dafa is the Falun or Law Wheel. The Falun emblem is comprised of various forms of yin-yang symbols (also known as Taichi symbols) and swastikas (known as wan in Chinese). Yin-yang symbols are traditionally associated with Taoist schools of thought, while swastikas have been associated for millennia with ways of cultivation in the Buddha school. To learn more about the Falun, click here. More about the swastika here.
How to Learn

Local assistants and veteran practitioners teach the exercises, always free of charge, at practice sites in cities and towns around the world. All books, lectures and a complete library of audio and visual materials to help you learn the practice are available for free download on this website.http://www.falundafa.org/eng/intro.html
