Overpopulation of the Planet. "Faith" in human ingenuity (huh!) ?

Overpopulation of the planet article in New York Times:

Overpopulation limits on Earth is bunk

Science will bail us out?  This article has no suggestions other than "Faith" in Science/Man. I have more faith that Pig Factories/farms can develop a lethal virus that can be distributed around the globe in a day or two. Currently we can not even raise vegetables and wash them without using salmonella polluted  water.

So Optimism is now a Scienctific principle/law/fact ?

Human ancestors also had an uncanny knack to go extinct (Neanderthal e.g.)
