Vatican Cricket

Sports diplomacy has been around for for a while, and this caught my attention. It is a fascinating development.

Cricket is truly an excellent choice. It is the only sport I know of where India can play Pakistan, and everyone is completely civil. After all, breaking for afternoon tea does set a tone you do not see in other sports.  However, it is a hard game on the Players. First you have to take baseball and throw away the gloves/Mitts. Catching a ball that is harder, a bit larger, heavier than a baseball,  traveling as fast as a baseball, is not easy on the hands.

Cricket comes in 3 flavors these days. 5-day games (hardest), one day games, and the fast 20-20 (T20) games that take about as long as a regular game of baseball/football. The last form is very "flashy" with fireworks and cheer-leaders who can breath fire out of their mouth. (The last really took me by surprise when I saw her do it). Next will be flaming balls of fire pom-poms.

In any case, the islam and Hindu (Buddhists allowed?) teams will be the two power-houses. Then the Anglican and Vatican. That would be my guess.

This could be pretty good...   praying for the first game.

fyi - cricket is the sport that uses the most "tech" during a game. The Infrared Cameras are critical if a batter gets "out" by lbw (leg before wicket), as well as the software to determine the actual flight/path of the ball in question.

Cricket Books?

Cricket Explained by Robert Eastaway is a classic (easy to read with good humour)

and the Cricket for Dummies is not bad either.

without an overview you will be baffled by the sport. It is too complex.

USA:

If you use IPTV you can get the 24-hour cricket channel for ~$15 from DishWorld. Note: you do not need a full subscription, satellite dish etc. I use Roku for IPTV. DishWorld also has a discount on a Roku interface "box" (hockey puck)  as well.

Willow.tv is rather the online international tv station (monopoly?). The DishWorld  station is the exact same channel. I think the stream is far superior from DishWorld as opposed to Willow. Willow does have a larger package with more channels though - if you want to pay the money.
